Haters on Rap in General.

Postby Relapse.LP » Oct 10th, '09, 21:08

Anyone notice most people either hate rap or love it? It ain't necessarily true all the time, but these current trends in hip hop (as discussed in another thread) are killing our image.

Still... some ignorant motherfuckers who hate on rap have the most annoying reasons why ALL RAP is crap. And most of the ignorant people are rock fans. They're reasons follow... I'll refute them all!...

1. Rap puts a bad image on woman with all the misogyny included in the lyrics.

Saying all rap degrades women is ignorant. Many tracks, if you can find them, have a positive demeanor towards women: Keep Ya Head Up and Dear Mama. And please, I see tons of girls ass-dancing to Swing and Crank That. You see guys dancing to Swing? No.

2. Rap encourages violence a.k.a. shootings, murdering, and killing the police.

It's true hip hop contains many violent lyrics, but that's the reality of what happens in urban environments. As Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre said in a 1997 interview, their lyrics do not encourage killing people. If you're the CEO of Google and you happened to love a N.W.A. song called "Fuck the Police", would you feel obligated to shooting down cops? I doubt it. They juts depict life as it is. "You can't keep the truth hidden" - 2Pac

3. Rap lyrics are shit in general. I could write better lyrics.

Only thing I have to say about this is: listen to real hip hop and fuck you, hater. Could you rhyme multies and internals while delivering a message or having good subject content? Seriously, I'm not trying to sound like a hater, but writing rock lyrics is 10 times easier than writing raps.

4. Rap isn't real music. It's just some drums and some guy talking. Rock is real music.

Music is defined as a form of creative expression. Rap is more versatile in terms of talking about different subject matter. We talk about the harsh realities of life, the lush image of prosperity, the mistakes of our mother country, the dissing of other emcees, the false depiction the media uses, and just plain complex rhyming. There's much more I missed, but just a thing to think about. I do admit some rock guitar solos are pretty sick, but the subject matter is similar. Perhaps, it's just because both rock and rap are at a low point as of 2009.

5. Rap is for little kids who can't grow up and has a bad influence on people in general.

I've watched The Exorcist and do you see me masturbating with the Cross? And I have 30-year old friends that loved rap since 13.

Sorry, gotta get this shit off my chest... And fuck YouTube e-gangsters.

$(@TTY B@Y wrote:right. personally i have experienced this exact argument with friends of mine who are followers of rock music. it IS annoying when they give shit reasons for not liking rap, they just come across as so ignorant. BUT i am one of the first people to admit that rap is NOT real music. imo it's enhanced poetry. it is in fact a lot harder to learn an instrument like the guitar or the drums, than it is to write rap lyrics, i can say this from personal experience, i've done both. and it takes a hell of a lot more talent to SING, than it takes to rap. as for the 'you either love or hate rap' .. that's not true, i don't love or hate it. i like certain rap artists, like Eminem, T.I. Soulja Boy, P Diddy etc .. but i dislike the majority of rap, for example, i don't partically take pleasure from listening to the likes of Nas, Biggie, 2Pac, Canibus etc. so yeah, i don't love or hate rap, i'm inbetween. it's all a matter of opinion though. people who dislike rap, ACTUALLY dislike rap, so to argue with them about it renders as pointless. you can't argue with a personl preference. just my two cents. :y:

I agree partly. From experience from playing piano for 13 years as well as violin and some guitar, I can testify it takes LOTS of patience and time to play well on an instrument.

But can a guitar solo emotionally twist you? Words can do things no instrument can touch. That's why I prefer rap over rock, but that could change. I'm feeling Zeppelin and AC/DC as of now.

And I'm just wondering, not hating: what do you like about Soulja Boy? :sweating:

He's more like dance crunk than actual rap, in my opinion. Liking Eminem and Soulja is a rare thing I've never see. And yeah, arguing with rap haters are pointless and pisses me off sometimes.

you're right, guitar solo's etc don't emotionally twist you like rap can. and like you said, this is down to words, BUT i ALSO think that rap sometimes has too many words to emotionally twist you as much as a soft rock song with FEW words, of which really make you think. i can get more emotionally involved with soft rock songs, than rap songs. but i know other people feel differently about this.

good topic :y:

Yeah, I gotta give it to him. First time I heard Crank That, I actually thought it was catchy and didn't give a fuck what he said. People should have some more fun with hip hop OCCASIONALLY. See, all this hate on Lil Wayne just makes him feel more popular. Not that he is good or anything, but you gotta admit some of his songs catch your ear, no matter how bad the lyrics are or his voice.

I agree that some rock songs got like a ten word chorus that makes you think, but I haven't really listened to a rock album that can make me tear, laugh, and just party with in the same record. Maybe because I don't listen to rock often, but I don't think rock has rap's flexibility.

And thanks. :y: I bet lots of people think about this, but don't say it out loud, but fuck it, it's out.

yeah, i think the reason why people hate lil wayne so much is 'cause he actually came out and said he is the best rapper, or something like that? when he actually is not. but yeah some of his verses are nice, i liked his verse on 'forever' actually. and he has a song with drake called 'unstoppable', and i thought he had a great verse on that :y: AND that song, er forgot what it's called but it goes, "when i, ar-rive, i, i bring the fire, make you come, alive, i, can take you higher" .. god that song, i played it on repeat for days. :worship:

i think it also depends on how a person lives their life, for example, with the life i lead, i've been in serious relationships, and i can't really think of any rap songs that really express how i felt during the break ups, the fights, the tears, the love etc, but with some rock songs, they've actually struck a chord in me and made me feel really emotional, but i can see why people who share the same life experiences as the rappers sing about, feel more emotionally connected with rap.

As I said, Lil Wayne is over-hated. I personally like his delivery on Forever than Eminem and his lyrics are more creative. Eminem had complex rhyme schemes, but IMO his vocabulary in Forever was kind of lacking and his flow, although impeccable, seemed a little monotonous. Lil Wayne has personality, somewhat, so that's what appeals to me. Eminem > Lil Wayne though overall...

Even though I live in a sheltered home for most of my childhood and my family had money, I still can sympathize with the broke people on the streets or stuff. I don't know why, but when I hear tales of urban struggle, I can feel their pain and sorrow. But some themes are repetitive.

I personally find relationship songs a good way of expressing yourself and releasing steam, but the sub-genre is over-played now. Basically, all pop and country just talk about breakups. Not to mention alternative and 60% of the rap coming out today. It gets old, peoples.

Rap is music. I have had this argument millions of times. You can never win because they never give rap a chance. They hear a guy like Rick Ross and say Rap is shit. But never listen to rappers like Immortal Technique, Eminem, 2Pac and many more who have a great message behind thier music. It really pisses me off when they say Rap is not music and that they talk about killing the police and being involved with gangs or with guns. Alot of people can relate to that type of stuff because that's how they live. Rock is so much simple to wright. You scream for like 10 mins, then have a little verse, then sing 10 mins more. RAP IS MUSIC AND I LOVE IT.

Now, Krazy Kane, you are doing the same thing as the rap haters.
Rock lyrics are shorter than rap lyrics, but they also can contain a message. Of course, it usually isn't the mtv rock, neither does the mtv rap contain a real message.
and Rock is way more about the REAL musical part: the instruments and stuff. Rap music is usualy made over a short loop of a beat. But that's not the good thing about the hip-hop music. the good thing is the message. The complex lyrics, the poetry. hip-hop music without any of these is totally weak and wack. Rock music doesn't neceserely need some poetry-like lyrics.
And I ain't even into rock :)
