Classic Album You Can't Get With?

Postby Relapse.LP » Oct 27th, '09, 06:42

What album that is generally acknowledged by the consensus of the critics and the street a classic, but you just plainly don't like it that much?

Give an album that is said to be a classic, but you don't think deserves that honor.

Give another album that you still believe is a classic, but it's just not your type or style of hip hop.

I'ma do mine...

1. All Eyez on Me

Extremely overrated album, really. It contains a bunch of filler tracks that furthermore emphasize his "thug" style of living that he already made clear in the first track "Ambitionz Az a Ridah". Record gets repetitive after several tracks and it very soon gets clear that Suge Knight wanted 2Pac to do the album, taking in to considerable account his previous album Me Against the World with its intro-perspective outlook on urban life and future album The Don Killuminati: 7 Day Theory with its rebellious attitude towards other rappers, as compared to All Eyez on Me's surprisingly... poppy mood.

But on the other hand, my favorite 2Pac song is on there: I Ain't Mad at Cha, a depressing account of dying friends. Also, other tracks like "Life Goes On" and "Only God Can Judge Me" partly save the album from being mediocre, so it is in average a solid effort from 2Pac, although that's not saying much, in contrast to his other better albums...

2. Doggystyle

It's a little monotonous after the first few tracks, although Snoop manages to save it with his story-telling ability, although ironically, his lack of complex lyrics ruin it as well.

It's a classic album for sure though. Its impact and influence in both lyricism and production is significant on the hip hop community. Besides, it was the first rap album that sold so much. :b:

Your turns. :flower:
Yo, from the first to the last of it; delivery is passionate/
The whole and not the half of it; vocab and not the math of it/
Projectile that them blasted with; accurate assassin shit/
Me and Kweli close like... Bethlehem and Nazareth/

All the albums released in the 80's. Expecially the Run-DMC stuff. Way overrated.

I'd have to say Ultimate Victory by Chamillonaire. It's ok but It's not as good as I hoped. I felt there was a lot of fillers.

No offense, but Ultimate Victory was never recognized as a timeless classic, so it doesn't count. :y:

Encore and MMLP differ by 5 levels of hip hop. :confusion:

IMO, Ready to Die is the best hip hop album of all time. The flow is purely magnificent. Production is amazing and top-notch. Filled with straight bangers all the way.

I agree somewhat. 80's albums are judged more by their influence then their actually quality.

But back then, when the albums came out, they were classic and we have different standards of hip hop music nowadays so we can't really say that it's overrated.

I mean, if the 90's never existed, what would hip hop be like?

If the 80's never existed, what would hip hop be like?

Gotta take the perspective of time into account as well when judging a whole decade of music. :b:

Nahh, the album I couldn't hang wit' was Enter The Wu, but I took a full listen a few weeks ago, and its my top album. Same happened with alot of albums to me, you just need to listen with your mind open, as well as ears, don't listen to pass time. :y:
