He keeps saying he doesn't want to be compared to Slim, but who's name-dropping who?

And I bet you he never picked up Illmatic before... :n:

Imagine if the first question of every interview you ever did was about being like another rapper?

And so what if he didn't pick up Illmatic, no one fucking did for a few years, then suddenly it was a classic..

You really don't know what you're talking about, do you?

If Illmatic was slept on for several years, why were rappers trying to knock Nas in the late 90's and wanted his features everywhere?

Please, you're just another hater. :n:

Why yall always pick Illmatic? From the old school, Paid In Full was much more greater album IMO.

Do your homework :)

Nas is in my Top 10, and i've just stuck up for Drake and Wayne even though i don't listen to them.

It's a well known fact that Illmatic wasn't seen as a classic until it'd been out a minute. I'm not saying it's not a classic, just making a point, if so many people love it, how come it took so long to blow up?

Debatable, but Paid in Full had only like 7 actual raps. Eric B. needs his solos too, I guess, back then, sigh. :flower: And Paid in Full is respected so much, because of... 50% Influence, 50% Actual Quality.

I love that album though. Still bump it from time to time. :smoking:

And I pick Illmatic, because most people know it. It's not even my favorite hip hop album. Ready to Die is. :worship: And Illmatic is considered "hip hop's bible". I beg to differ on that, but hey, who doubts the streets? :b:

Illmatic never blew up. It's not even 2 platinum as of 2009, I think. And think of all the influence it had over emcees everywhere after it dropped.

Sure you did your homework; so you know that Nas was considered King of N.Y. before It Was Written dropped? It may not have blown up mainstream, but sure did underground. Sorry, but it's hard for me to adjust to judging albums by how they "blow up" mainstream instead of quality-wise. :b:

Blow up doesn't necessarily mean mainstream. I mean when it reached cult status.
It was seen as dope, but it was only after a minute that people were comparing shit to it when the "is this a classic" conversations came up. That didn't happen for Ready to Die or any of the well recognised classics.

Ready to Die is a better album than Illmatic, word up. :king:

But no point in arguing on this. It blew up underground, I'm certain. The evidence is everywhere. Rappers already started to get on him, quote him, talk about him... Rakim talked about him. Queensbridge talked about him. It was crazy... Source gave him 5 Mics, which was fucking hard at that time. Everyone in the publication of the Source agreed it should get five; that's how classic it was at that time.

But straight up: Illmatic is a classic, whether you like it or not.

Not riding Nas (He's not in my top 3 rappers), but gotta give it to him when props are due.

Oh, and Ready to Die was classic immediately, because it got more promotion, thanks to Puffy, so everyone knew about B.I.G. when he came out.

Big Poppa and Juicy made it big on the charts and still are classics.

So it's untrue that mainstream always equals whack. :flower:

I mean less of rappers, but just the public using the album as an example in conversation. But fuck it, it's too late to discuss..

Word up: Illmatic is dropped too much in comparing "classics", but fuck it; I'll go with the flow.
