Bonus Tracks + Luis Resto

Postby chiasmus » Oct 30th, '09, 15:21

Two things -

1.) Why does it always seem to be the case that Em's bonus tracks (especially recently i.e; Encore + Relapse) are the best work from the album?? I understand that this is only a matter of opinion, but who here wouldn't argue that 'Careful What You Wish For' and 'My Darling' were two of the best tracks from Relapse? Same goes for the bonus tracks on Encore, they were much better than the majority of the stuff on the actual album. Em should just put out a whole album of bonus tracks man!

2.) Luis Resto. Remember him? For anyone who checks out the production credits on Shady's tracks, they will know he used to help make a lot of records for Em. Recently, he hasn't been doing as much work with Em, and in my opinion, this has affected the quality of his work. The only tracks on Relapse that Resto helped write/produce were 'Beautiful', 'Careful What You Wish For' and 'My Darling'. Speaks for itself doesn't it?? There's just much more feeling to these tracks. Let me know what you think.

Note for mods: Please move this to two separate topics if it needs to be moved, I'm new on here.

Fantastic post and I totally concur. Wow, Luis Resto was involved with all those great songs ^ huh? Maybe Em just uses him for that personal shit and doesnt waste him on the psycho stuff.

I agree with Encore but that was because the songs leaked so he didnt want to put them on the album. But Careful What You Wish For and My Darling were not that good, and didnt have anything on any relapse track outside of Crack A Bottle, im glad they werent on the album.

Careful what you wish for and My Darling are average songs.

LOL.

You're the type of person who probably likes songs where Em has to ACT all psycho so you can get off on that shit.

Those bonus songs are 1000 times greater than Relapse. I can't imagine Em wants to look back at Relapse and see a song called "Bagpipes from Bagdad" where he picks a wuss fight with Mariah and has a gay accent. Those songs were made for 10 year old kids to laugh at not for people to enjoy music.

Ok who care what Em wants to look back and See. Bagpipes from Bagdad>Careful What You Wish For and My Darling. The Beat, Lyrics and Flow are insane on Bagpipes from Bagdad. When I first heard it I was like oh shit. Careful what you wish for and My Darling are boring, have boring beats. The lyrics arent very good at all. The flow is bland and the rhyming is horrible. If he went back now and made My Darling it would probably be crazy because of the subject but thats all the songs really got. It loses in all other categories.

Good points.

I guess everyone looks for different things in music, some are more interested in the lyricism, whereas others look for the melodies and keys behind the raps. I think Resto was the kind of guy more focused on the tunes and melodies, as opposed to the rapping, which is left to Em. I'm not going to knock Em's 'straight rap' on Relapse, I mean come on, it's ridiculous some of the stuff - just take the multis on the second verse of 'Stay Wide Awake' as a case and point. The whole verse keeps the same ryhme scheme and each of the 15 syllables is matched each time!! But I prefer the stuff that has more emotion to it, it's more raw, more appealing and you can feel the melody and the lyrics, as opposed to simply having a straight beat used a framework for some incredible MCing, as is the case on much of Relapse. And that's just an opinion, everyone has them.

Other songs Resto has helped to write and produce include; 'Say Goodbye to Hollywood', 'Sing For the Moment', 'Hailie's Song', 'Til I Collapse', 'Lose Yourself', 'Yellow Brick Road', 'Like Toy Soldiers', 'Spend Some Time', 'Mockingbird', 'Love You More' and 'We as Americans'. A lot of these are more 'emotional' tracks, and for me I'm interested to see what Relapse 2 will sound like, as as you all know, Em has said it will be more of an emotionally-charged album. I'm betting the name Luis Resto will pop up somewhere in the production credits...

I understand "Careful What You Wish For" not being on the album, it doesn't really fit, but "My Darling" would have been a good 2nd track.

I think he was going for something different with this album, it's not about who he worked with, Eminem wanted to make an album about being a serial killer-rapist so he did.

Look out for Relapse 2, I think the lyrics will be a lot more personal and maybe you'll see that combined with the rapping style and flow of Relapse he can make some amazing songs.

Beautiful is a great song, yes, but it's not amazing from a technical standpoint.
