Cuz Em doesnt rap for the streets, he said it himself. Yes I know, rap originated there, but Em does his own thing. On Infinite he tryed to pull off that street rap. And what happened? :loser: FAIL. Then he realized thats not the way a white boy gets a contract. So he switched his style up. And thats what made him famous.
My point is, he doesnt get the respect from the streets cuz he shouldnt. And he doesnt need it.

Look where hip-hop has spread to. smh. Without respect from the streets, how can you call yourself a rapper? You need at least some respect... not some from white rock-listeners changed to mainstream wanna-bes. Not saying any of you are. :flower:

Oh my God. I realize I'm a little late to the topic, but it pisses me off whenever people act like you have to be street or hood in order to appreciate good hip hop. I grew up in and still reside in the suburbs and I consider myself a big fan of hip hop. Just from lurking I've seen that I'm much older than a lot of you so my taste mostly runs to late eighties and nineties hip hop, but I'm still an Em fan. However, that doesn't mean I'm not also a fan of Pac, Big, Nas, Wu Tang, Redman, etc etc...
The opinion of the streets mean fuck all to me.

I'm referring to the statement of "Without respect from the streets, how can you call yourself a rapper?"

I stand by my post. Thanks! :flower:

You think I'm living some depressed urban life with guns and drugs? LMFAO.

I lived in suburbs in a sheltered neighborhood when I was a kid and I adored hip-hop. :y:

Never said you did. Don't know you from Adam, nor do I claim to. I'm remarking on the insinuation that you can't be a rapper without street cred. I'm simply stating that it's possible to respect talent, flow and lyrical ability without knowing anything about street life. Was that the only thing I said that people paid attention to? :tounge2:

I guess although Soulja Boy ain't hood in any sense, he gets respect from kids.

Nah, that was a harsh comparison. But hip-hop originated from the streets... you won't be invited into the revered trinity of MCs unless you can garner the critic's appeal and the street respect, word. I don't mean "street" as in "people who sell drugs and shoot others for a living." I mean the true hip-hop heads scattered across the world that are focused in the game and know what the fuck is going on. :y:
