What defines a true "Rap" fan?

Postby Relapse.LP » Nov 14th, '09, 02:59

This topic is meant to be a civilized debate over your definition of a true rap fan. Please refrain from excessive usage of profanity and name-calling, because that just transforms this debate into an internet beef, which no matter how interesting it is, ruins the entire purpose of this.

So, I'm curious, what is your definition? :y:

EDIT: And please back up your claims with facts, not made-up bullshit. :b:

EDIT 2: I changed the name to "rap", because people are claiming "hip-hop" also means DJing and Breakdancing and Graffiti and some people don't have access to that kind of shit.

I just responded to the same topic on the hip hop forum! I'll give the same answer but elaborate a bit. IMO, appreciation of skill and content of story being told without regard to what's "hot", the MC's appearance, age, or how much money, jewels, cars, etc. the person may possess. For example, I've heard girls say they like Wayne because he's fuckable ( I don't get it ), people say Jay is hot because of his cash, having Beyonce, etc. ( how is that relevant to skill? ) and I've heard people around here refuse to listen to Eminem because "I ain't trying to hear no white boy rap". If something catches my ear, that's all that matters.

Any person who listens to any kind of hip-hop, regardless of what artist.

That, because you can't be a true hip hop fan, if you don't listen to Hip Hop in all its forms, and decide for yourself what you deem suitable for your tastes.

Oh yes? so, A true hip hop fan must wear baggy pants, and over sized t-shirts? So, or a girl wear man's clothes or cant be a hip hop fan? A hip hop fan must write rhymes and produce music?

:sweating:

I think that a true hip hop fan must listen to all kind of rap music

I actually understand how Eminem hooks some people who have never heard hip-hop before and totally monopolises them (he does that coz he's so good btw) so they dont even bother checking out other artists of the genre. But you definetely need to check out his peers and legends before him if you are a true hip-hop fan.
