Dear Eminem. Stop adding more pills to my prescription. Instead, completely change the medication you’re giving me cause I’m not feeling it so far. They should call this album Relapse: Refiller cause these songs would have been considered “filler” songs if they had been released on a real album. Only reason people will give a damn about them is because they haven’t been heard by the general public. Notice how their releasing this so close to Christmas so people don’t have a lot of time to research on how bogus this bonus disk is?
As you know Relapse: Refill is Relapse 1 except with some bonus songs that were really songs scrapped from the ORIGINAL Relapse 2. But I guess Eminem didn’t want those songs to go to waste. If I had to pick a stand out song, it’s “Drop The Bomb On ‘Em”. Eminem goes hard on the song and it’s very good. Actually I would say its the best song on there. And yes…there are accents on these songs. Not all of them but most of them.
But it’s not all bad news. I’d say 2-3 of these songs are better than half of the songs on Relapse 1. So if there is any songs you rarely listen to on Relapse 1, these bonus songs would be good replacements to make it easier for you to listen through the album from beginning to end. Personally, I’m going to replace Must Be The Ganja with “Drop The Bomb On ‘Em”.
One thing to be grateful for is Eminem does try to give you a variety of songs when it comes to content on the bonus disk. He realizes fans are sick of waiting so he didn’t just release 5 silly songs or 5 all serious songs. There is a nice variety here.
You can easily tell that “Taking My Ball” was suppose to be the first single for the original Relapse 2 before it got scrapped for the “Relapse 2 that blacks can enjoy”. I love funny and zany Eminem, but only when Eminem is witty and creative with lines that have a lot of bite to them. There is nothing witty or funny about Taking My Ball. It just falls flat. The only good thing about the song is the beat, but even that gets killed by his Arabian accent.
Here’s what kills me about Eminem. The guy recorded 100’s of songs for Relapse 1 and Relapse 2. So that means there are tons of songs you’ll never hear from the original Relapse 2 before he changed direction. They are probably locked up in a vault somewhere. So why not just turn Refill into a double album if you’re going to release a second disk? It could be filled with unreleased songs. Why not just release the entire original version of Relapse 2 instead of just these 6-7 songs as a second disk? Why waste manufacturing 2nd disk for only six songs? It’s as stupid as Interscope releasing a bonus disk for Relapse 1 the first time around with only 2 songs (Careful What You Wish For, and My Darling). Why not give customers more bang for their buck?
I don’t care how big of an Eminem fan you are. Do not rebuy this disk. There’s only 1 or 2 songs you will really like on this. “Drop The Bomb On ‘Em” is the best song unless you’re more into Arabian talking Eminem.
Oh and you should be very glad that Eminem changed direction on Relapse 2 since these bonus songs from what my insider tells me, were the best songs that Eminem handpicked from the original R2 batch. How depressing. I’m glad someone told Eminem to change direction because Relapse 2 would basically have been…well…Relapse 1.
Anyways guys, listen to me. Get these songs any way you can, but do not buy Relapse: Refill. There are no “Stan” caliber songs on here. Sorry to say. Only buy this album if you do not have Relapse already. Otherwise, stay away from this cheap marketing attempt.
I told you before that Interscope was determined to get Eminem to release R2 by December to please their shareholders for the holidays and 4th quarter results. When Eminem wasn’t able to finish up by his deadline, Interscope is releasing this cheap cash in attempt. I’ll be brutally honest. I thought “Careful What You Wish For” and “My Darling” were better bonus songs than most of the songs on this bonus disk. At least in those songs, Eminem sounds like the normal Eminem and not Borat. Lets be fair. If you really think I’m lieing, and that there are some brilliant songs on this disk, then I’m pretty sure Eminem would have saved them for Relapse 2.
I give the Refill Bonus Disk a 6 out of 10 for “Drop the Bomb”, and “Hell Freezes Over”. Everything else is just forgettable. This bonus disk is an album of filler songs…which is what a BONUS disk is suppose to be. So you have to be a real Eminem fanboy to rebuy this for some filler throwaway songs.
