I was just wondering, im hearing all this talk from Mr porter etc about how incredible relapse 2 is, well it got me thinking does anybody remember the hype Encore got? Were the people that had listened to the album before it came out say how great and crazy etc it was?

Actually, that's one song where Em has the right to "act gangster". In real life, the beef was dangerous and what not

And for the OP, there's always hype from any artists friends/label on the album even if it's shit: Interscope is a business and Eminem is a product.

Also, I remember some hype around Encore. The album wasn't that great; it introduced a new Em, the fart/burp and accent Eminem (which even some true fans HATE). Never before has Em made such easily identifiable 'poppy/desperate' singles "Ass Like That" "Encore" "Just Lose It". You can specifically tell he wrote those for singles. At least in TES, or MMLP there's only one song like that and they weren't THAT poppy.

Good news though: obviously, for whatever reason, Relapse 2 was delayed - the direction of the album has changed because he said he had 40 songs worth of "Relapse" material. So, to go in and make new songs, the focus is different (i.e. Less desperate shock lyric songs, and more "Forevers" and "Rabbit Run" songs hopefully).
