What does it take for Eminem to be "Relevant"?

He kind of made himself irrevevant too. He never really does anything. Who puts out a record and does five shows for it? It's kind of his fault if he is irrelevant. At the same time anytime he does anything it's on every hip hop site.

He's not as relevant as he was because he's keeping a low profile, but I think his low profile is his doing. I'm sure he knows how to blow himself up to his former popularity, but he seems like he doesn't want that kind of attention anymore. He gets respect from his peers, which seems like all he wants right now.

Anyone else feel like no matter what Em does this year, everyone who isn't into him still call him a "Has-been" and disregard everything he does as a "cry for relevance"?

I understand that there are new popular faces on the scene, Eminem's prime is far buried (there are still some shines in the mud here and there though), and...well....he's not only white, but also old now , but why is it that artists like Drake, who hasn't even released a full album yet but a couple of mixtapes & guest appearances, Jay Z, another veteran returning to the game who didn't even sell the amount that Relapse did, & Asher Roth, who is....well, Asher Roth....are considered "relevant" in this game, but Eminem isn't? People say that his career was finished in 2004, but lets look at it.

Encore, despite the disappointment and lol-worthy album it is, sold 11 million copies worldwide.

He signed 50 cent, who turned out to be rap's Bulletproof moneymaker during his prime.

He released D12 World...well....I'm not sure about whether or not this was a good thing.

Shift 5 years later, 2009:

He dominated Drake, Kanye, & Wayne without even knowing that they were going to be on it.

His last album is second highest selling album of the year, and still the highest selling rap album this year.

He's gotten several Grammy Nominations for Relapse and is most likely going to take them (He's going up against 808 Heartbreak...for real?)

He's proven that his Lyrical ability is still in top shape, even though his content is still iffy.

"We Made You" and "Beautiful" are played on the radio like crack.

He helped with DJ Hero....uhh...Yeah I'm not sure about this one.

Refill clearly proved that the Old Em is still in him, and that he can still make sick tracks.

And he's about to get on a track with Lil Wayne again.

What else does he have to do to show that he's just as relevant in this game as anyone else?

Britney isn't relevant but like Em she is a superstar, All they need is a massive single & BOOM you're relevant again. I think Em & interscope learned that We made you was bad move & should of pushed Beautiful as the major single for Relapse.

Drugs..

Eminem- Made him paranoid and angry, made him rant and want to vent, made his most powerfull shit. Also they made him beat people up and get assualt charges, which got him in the media, and gave him more material to rip it up. Drugs never necessarily helped him with his rhymes, just helped find him topics to talk about.

Beatles- Made songs about Yellow Submarines and shit, people called them inspired and creative. But go to any group of high motherfuckers and see if they can't come up with better with the same sex appeal and promotional boost. Also they gave birth to the embarrassment that was John Lennon as a solo artist, who came up with nothing but contradicting tripe until he got shot. Yeah John, imagine there's no possessions, while you're in your million pound mansion fanning yourself with a wad of cash next to the pool.. Dickhead.

john lennon as a solo artist made some of the best music of all time.

I know that John Lennon had this image of being an inspirational artist and was obviously loved so much from the Beatles, but his solo stuff was subpar and he was/is overrated as fuck. As well as being the biggest hypicrite for a preacher there is likely to be.
