i believe its the other way around. When many people like something, THEN it gets mainstream.

here is an interesting saying:

"staying underground, is the best commercial move"

To be honest, these last few years I used to prefer m-rap. Cuz it was good mainstream, it was still listenable. But right now... Im not gonna lie, I still perfer some mainstream shit, just not the majority of it.
But to stay on the topic... I think ppl prefer it more cuz its more out there. Its lot easier to get to it. As for the underground, the word says it all... Its cuz its underground. Its on low profile. They talk about stuff that are more acceptable to the minority than majority. And is more complexed, and common fans dont wanna get into the depth of it.

I think like ^ said is because it's easier to access. And it's simple, acceptable generic music. Underground music is more meaningful, "complicated" and in depth (overall) compared to mainstream and I believe that mainstream listeners just want something simple and enjoyable to listen rather than something serious and "deep".

you are confused about the meaning of mainstream.

If more people would have liked underground music, than 'underground' would be mainstream.
When something is liked by many, it is mainstream.

So there is no style attached to mainstream imo

you know what i mean. the music that is mainstream right now.

It's marketing, mainly. Women/girls are the target audience, as they don't really care as much about lyrics, but rather how it sounds. Since they are the ones that will be buying albums/singles/merchandise/whatever, it's sensible to push the type of music that they like. That's how I see it, anyway.

The main reason being the accessibility as well as hearing it even if you don't look for it )radio, commercials, youtube because of views/popularity) :y:

There's some underground stuff which I can't stand myself. A lot of effort is put to make the song's rhyming complex which really just complicates things and it's not as enjoyable.

Good points? like I need to point out anything about this stupid discussion that was made what was it? yesterday? Same exact concept and discussion just a different title. And I don't see what this guy is trying to do, cause he doesn't understand the real meaning of Hip Hop, the shit every real hip hop fan feels in hip hop, this guy doesn't understand it. He thinks he understands it, but he doesn't.

Ignorant motherfucker with a poppy attitude. I don't have to point out shit.

No, no, no. Scott's right, X. It is more listenable - to the mass. But thats only beacuse people are shallow when it comes to music. I've met god knows how much people in my life. And 95% of those people put quality of the music they listen to completely asside. Im not sayin you should take music abnormally serious, humanity has lot bigger issues than music. But people are startin to not givin a fuck about it at all. Which I find wrong and in a way annoying. Of course I dont want to listen to Dance With The Devil in a club, but Im not livin in a fuckin club...

mainstream music is way way way more enjoyable by many different people. I mean let's face it, Underground is known to be more "hard" how many chicks are gonna dig that type of music? not many probably..same with 12 year old kids, and same with grown ups who don't agree with fighting and shit like that. Plus mainstream is way more radio friendly, it's more accepted.
