It was M&M at first, but he changed it because of the candy, and made it Eminem instead, because he didn't want to get sued.

His original name always stood for Marshall Mathers and not the sweet lol.

Like already said, he just changed it to avoid legal issues, he spelled it out phonetically.

^ Lmao no it's because of the fact his initials are that and he was going under the name using the actual spelling "M+M" so it's like a pisstake affiliation since M+M's were already being made with that logo / lettering.
