This is easy for me. I'll share my top 3 and expand on why...
1. Xzibit - I just cannot understand why X never fully achieved... Top-shelf lyricist acclaim status. I mean, around when the track "X" was out and the re-rise of Dre (Up in Smoke etc.) he was actually quite big. But nearly all of his albums have been slept on and most don't think of him when naming top lyricists.
X is definitely a top lyricist. Anyone who doubts this go listen to "Paparazzi" or "What U See is What U Get" - Undoubtebly two of the best rap tracks of all time. He can be ferocious or introspective, biting or calm. He's an all-rounder like Em and he's got a magnetic flow.
2. Royce Da 5'9" - Obviously. I think it's fair to say Royce is on most people's underrated list. If they have one. Once part of Bad Meets Evil... Him and Em could of ruled the fucking World. And they still can. Lets hope for a full re-unite of their magic duo.
3. Proof - It's not hard to see why he's underrated. I mean... He often stepped aside for Em. He seemed to be very selfless. He dedicated so much time to hyping Em and supporting Em and D12's rise to the top that he didn't have much time left to do solo stuff.
Although I think he was just happy fucking around and appearing on the odd track. Which is odd given that he was such a stellar lyricist. Proof did obviously manage to fit in one solo album before his demise. And what an album it was (Searching for Jerry Garcia) - In my opinion, a classic. Nearly every track is fantastic for a different reason. Very dark and creative. He also switched up his flow a lot but kept it all linked. Very very good.
