My Music Box Interpretation

Postby haste2492 » Dec 30th, '09, 18:38

Ok I know there was already a topic on what Music Box means but I want to examine it a little closer with my interpretation. Looking at verse 3...

[Verse Three]
I’m fixated on asphyxiating and breakin’ this little chick’s neck
(he's ready to come back to the rap game and do away with all those leading it right now, and his desire to come back and shred them is unmatched)

Through the crack leavin’ the corpse drippin’
(as he quietly creeps back into hip hop, he's gonna slaughter all those at the head of it right now)

Been doin’ this for more than a quarter century, I’m just numb
(he has been a rapper for a while, started becoming interested in it at a young age)

The time has come to tie her up, gotta roll me the ladder
(he's finally ready to make his comeback and reclaim what's his)

I’d had enough of the chatter, climb up to the window, look at her
(enough talking about it, don't worry it's coming)

then climb in and slowly shatter her brain matter and batter her
(he finally makes his full return and puts out incredible music that demolishes what's out right now)

with the bat, a matter of fact that will splatter her

So strong is your fight, but your no match for Dracula
(you might fight back at me but you can't match the greatest rapper)

Prolonging her plight, as I go back to stabbin’ her
(the struggle draws on as he continues to get stronger and finish them off)

Dismember her limbs, simple as that, cadaver her

Zoom in with the lens, then pan back, the camera
(the media will capture his incredible return to top form with great detail)

Stand back, cuz here comes your man Jack, so Pamela
(stand back and admire what he will have done in his comeback)
________________________________________________________

I made a few connections with this song to his return to rap and if some of these metaphors are right and come true I think we may be seeing Eminem at a level of skill that could top some of his best previous work.

To be honest I think your reading way too much into this. Some good thoughts though and it would be cool if you were right. :y:

How did you come to the conclusion he was talking about hip-hop when he was talking about breaking the chicks neck? the chorus is about a girl, he's in serial killer mode dude :)

The other interpretation was saying that his "music box" keeps calling him back to rap. Just cuz he's in serial killer mode doesn't mean hes too absent minded to write about something broader, it could just be because when he wrote this song he was more comfortable writing about killing and whatnot.

In the beginning of the song when he walks into a room and opens the box and while he is digging to find what he is looking for u hear plastic noise sorta like CD's he is digging threw till he pulls out the music box and he makes it play . then the song starts.

im thinking his music box = relapse 2 and he is subliminally throwing shots at everyone that he is coming back with a vengeance and that anyone trys to stop him will get slaughtered.

but thats just what i think.. who knows lmao...

I get the point of your post now, any time he mentions a girl in the song he's talking about rap, never thought of it like that before, I had a moment like that the other day with one of his songs, gonna remember it and post it.

I am a very analytical person and I like reading into sub-texts.

But of late, there has been no underlying metaphors in Eminem's music. There's a lot of vivid imagery, character play, persona-juggling (as always), irony etc.

But it's pretty much what you see is what you get. "Music Box" is just Music Box. I don't think there's any hidden metaphorical agendas aimed toward hip-hop lmao.

Well, I don't care really what you're like on the inside and I just really want you to come to bed with me. Would you do that if you could? Even if you were just average on the outside (but not fat) I could like you if you sounded smart.

I think you're interpretation was cool tho, good observation, and yeah it would be cool if you're right, highly doubt it tho :smoking:
