Yeah I know, I was around.....

Ruff ryders...and the crotchrockets.

However, I was never really into him. He was alright but...

The drag-on and twista song was the only good song off any of the ruff ryder cd's

I just think whilst DMX has more than proved himself, and if you've listened to his new songs, will know he's still doing it..

T.I. has so far only showed a lot of promise, rather than takin' the next step, and being recognised as sick in the game..

I personally think thats just his delivery.

People dont like his monotone flow. I was the same way till that song came out

" I had straps in my ride, gotta go to prison " - That ready for whatever song, then I listened to his shit and he's dope as fuck....

DMX was just a lot of loud noise in my opinion. But whatevs. No disrespect though :y: Just never liked his music much.

i personally thought eminem bit dmx's concept as soon as guilty conscience came out. again the army of stans come to em's defense like everything em does is original and try to rationalize things. artists bite each other all the time and eminem even admits it.

"i hear your demo tape and act like i dont like it. 6 months later you'll hear your lyrics on my shit."
"i'll bite youre motha fuckin style just to make it fresher."

it's obvious em is influenced by many many artists - masta ace, ll cool j, pac, biggie, big l, redman, nas, az.. and those are just the most glaringly obvious ones off the top of the head. seriously some of the people here need to go listen to some more hip hop. and i'm not talkin about T.I. i'm talkin about go do your homework on artists that came before eminem and you will see the influences.

eminem to me is the illest lyricist of all time but there are certain concepts, lines, and styles he uses that you just kind of know where he got that from. it is just so obvious to me that some of you people only listen to eminem and then call him the greatest. i have a lot more respect for those that are well-rounded in hip hop and know why he's one of the greats instead of someone who knows nothing about hip hop and sees some white dude on TV and puts him a ridiculous pedastool.

I think snoop did it first, though

Well, I don't care really what you're like on the inside and I just really want you to come to bed with me. Would you do that if you could? Even if you were just average on the outside (but not fat) I could like you if you sounded smart.

No Em didn't rip the concept.

Speaking to different versions of yourself in a song is not unique to DMX. I mean you could probably go back hundreds of years and find examples of it in plays.

It's not shocking to see humans come up with the same ideas multiple times. We're pattern-seeking creatures and regardless of background, race or colour, we often come out with similar end-results.

Also, the tracks are quite different. I mean the actual... Root philosophy of the track is the old 'angel and devil' idea. The bad thoughts / good thoughts. You know I mean... It's been replicated in so many forms (good cop, bad cop) it's not sane to mention.

It's not where it comes from it's what you do with it. It's quite laborious and rather lame to keep tracing things back. You could do it with everything and chances are if you think something is original, you're wrong. I mean especially in our times.

But "My Darling" sounds less like Em writing raps to sound like verses. I mean like all... Em songs really, it sounds like a real-time conversation which just happens to be rhyming. That's so hard to do. That's his most underrated aspect, writing conversation that sounds plausible... I mean... It doesn't sound contrived it sounds REAL and sounds like the rhymes are coincidental.

Also DMX's song doesn't go anywhere near the depths of "My Darling" in terms of emotional ressonance. Not only does Em's psychotic voice acting take it to a new level but the idea of paring the emotions... My darling... I don't ever want you to leave be my darling... It's just. A lot better in my opinion.

Like I said, it's not where it comes from but what you do with it. It's not DMX's idea either.

Also rap, in terms of the music spectrum is very new. At best it's been around... 30 years. That's not only nothing in comparison to other music genres but it's not even a molecule in terms of the existence of most forms of art. So it's really very easy indeed to see duplications of ideas, concepts etc.

It's still a fledgling little chick, running around tweeting. So we magnify it and study the lyricism and the flows more so than any other art form. Not only because they matter more to rap but also because it's so new. But it gets more scrutiny than is natural. After 100 years, it'll be so common-ground to that generation, it'll be much harder to spot.
