Royce's wordplay is kinda corny some times, his flow makes up for it though. Crooked I is all about multies and internal rhyming with some hard hitting punches once in a while and above average wordplay. Joe Budden's punchlines and wordplay are by far the best in the group. IMO, none of Eminem's punchlines come close to Budden's punchlines.
I totally disagree. Especially about Em's punchlines not being close to Budden's.
I hope you just mean of late as that's the Em I've been missing. He's being too literal, I'm missing the metaphors and classic punchlines. But it's coming back. And irony is always there.
But if you mean period I think that's totally nuts if you think Budden's best even touch the sides of EM's best.
That's the problem, Em's not on his best right now. I know his flow and rhyme schemes have improved, but he's lacking the metaphors, punchlines and overal wordplay.
So, right now, in terms of metaphors, punclines and wordplay. SH > Em, in terms of flows, I gotta give it to Em.
Well yeah he's missing metaphors but he's been so literal... He must of been purposely avoiding them.
As in freestyles, he's coming out with much more old-style punchlines.
I think he's purposely being very literal and just seeing how descriptive he can be, to the limit. Like on "Buffalo Bill". So I don't think that he's lost it, he just isn't using it. He's trying to sound fresh.
So i wouldn't say he's not at his best because of that, it's just a new Em. He also didn't use much metaphors on The Eminem Show. Was very serious, sarcastic and stern.
But from what Mr. Porter said, seems
that Em will be back for R2. Metaphors etc. That's the Em I want back anyway. That's the Em I'm missing. I'm not looking to be shocked as nothing offends me, I just want some good old fashioned, genius Em punchlines.
But on like "Drop the Bomb on Em'" he was back to battle-lyrics. Some pretty good ones too.
"Shady fucking Aftermath boi the ship doesn't sink, it just floats in the fucking water till we fill up the tank"
That's a beautiful little, simplistic cocky metaphor right there. Not strictly a metphor but metaphorical language. Plus, even average Em metaphors sound better than any of their's or anybody's to me just because his flow / energy is always 10 fold their's, so it just souuunds better lol.
His flow is always so unebelievably crafted, like he's glued to the beat, he also invents a new melodic flow and creates a rhythm that wasn't there. Then his energy is just so refreshing, it's like Redman on crack, so everything just sounds so cool lmao.
