That wasn't my personal view on him, that was a satirical look at how the mainstream viewed Eminem up until 2005. Lil Wayne4Life brought up the fact that no one talks about Eminem, and I was just pointing out why that is, and why they started not to, and how they used to actually talk about him alot.
As for myself, I actually loved the CD and for a while viewed it as his best, but Eminem Show was definitely when people started with the Em hate (Not only by mainstream fans, look at the album critically also.)
White America & Drips definitely were edgy, but definitely not as controversial and full of the "shock value" (well, maybe Obie's verse

) that his first 2 CDs had. Yes there was still some controversy surrounding the album, but MMLP had caused the gay community to rally outside of the Grammies in protest of the album winning the award.
And I didn't say D12 wasn't good, I used a Joe Budden quote as a way to look at how a separate artist (Who is actually affiliated with Eminem, to an extent) looks at them as a rap group.

I am aware, but not the average listener isn't going to be like "Oh, it's okay if he makes subpar music. He has a drug problem". The average rap listener is gonna be like "Wow...Wtf".
Once again, this is not my opinion, I'm just saying it how it is.
And I was totally wrong to say that Wayne has a complete grip on the Mainstream but if you live here in the US, look around you.
I have no doubt in my mind Relapse 2 will sell more than C4 because there is a shit load of hype surrounding it, but ask any kid on the street who their favorite rapper is. They're either going to say 2pac for the sake of conforming, Immortal Technique for the sake of being a rebel, or Lil Wayne because of his huge appeal.
He's on every fucking feature, his label is probably going to be the label of the decade (I don't give a fuck if they suck, any of the artists there can take a shit and put it in a CD case and it'll still sell because of Wayne's stamp of approval).
He has a huge influence on youth, from the way they dress to even the rappers. Go up on Youtube and look at all of the Wayne clones using the same crappy punchline simile formula Wayne uses. Look at everyone trying to mimic his annoying fucking voice, and look at everyone trying to reproduce the same kind of beats that he uses.
I fucking hate Wayne, but turn on the radio and you'll see what I mean when I say he's fucking everywhere. Hell, Obama even used Wayne as an example of a "great rapper" (lol).
I do believe with his jail sentence, he's about to fall off, however. We have a whole year off without Wayne, and I doubt his
mainstream fanbase is going to hold out till 2011 just to hear C4. It'll have been 3 years since Wayne put out an album (I don't call Rebirth an album, it's more of a miscarriage).
By then,
hopefully the next big thing is going to step into the spotlight, and the "crown" (It shouldn't even be called this, because it is not an achievement to get everyone to ride your cock) will be taken by some other poppy-gimmicky faggot with a weird voice and take control of the radio....
My hopes on the mainstream are on B.o.B. though
