AVENGED IS THEIRS!
WB Hardcore SoCal Metal Act Challenges for #1

July 28, 2010

Veteran Warner Bros. Huntington Beach metalcore act Avenged Sevenfold looks like a real contender for the top spot next week with the release their fifth album, Nightmare, the first since the death of their longtime drummer, James “The Rev” Sullivan, last December.

The Rev wrote several of the songs and his vocals remain on the album. Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy finished up the disc on drums, and will join the group on tour, where they are part of the CAA/Live Nation Uproar Festival with Disturbed, which starts Aug. 17 in Minneapolis, sponsored by Rockstar Energy Drink.

Dedicated to The Rev’s memory, Nightmare is on target for the band’s best-ever first-week with a total of between 160-175k. Its only challenger for the top spot is the resilient Eminem, whose Shady/Aftermath/Interscope album Recovery enters its sixth week in the Top 50 after five straight weeks at #1 (at least on that other chart).

The only other debuts of note include Strange Music’s indie rappers Tech N9ne (17-20k) and Kedar Entertainment’s veteran R&B star Dru Hill (12-15k).

The market was up 1% vs. last week, down 15% vs. same week last year and still down 12% year to date. And you thought pigeon droppings on your head meant good luck.

god damn it another tight week!! I was hoping Em can have this week sale on lock easily -__- This means unless he has the same drop like last week he won't have the 6th week at #1

they give predictions base on reports, it's not like they predict out of their asses so

and Avenged's album is #1 &#3 on iTunes, above Recovery

Alaine, Didnt this last week tell you anything? :)

Recovery probably will have a similar type drop compared to last week and therefore take the top spot.

the only thing I'm thinking is, there is a good chance recovery is gunna take a decent % drop in sales soon, idk if he can maintain this 150k+ sales week for much longer

I agree. But i think this week he will do at least 170 K.

Next week he will do at least 150 K.

Then 130 K.

a few pages back I did give some reasons why he had a boost in sale last week, the news & rumors about the video had people hyped, the epic performance in LA with Rihanna.... this week so far nothing special happened

Except LTWYL and Not Afraid continuing to rise in Airplay.

Also Avenged has not had as much publicity as Eminem this week. While it is it's first week and it being the first album since there longtime drummer passed on i think is contributing to the high prediction based on the first day or reports. People who wanted that album got out right away to get it. I think it will slow down later in the week while Recovery will stay steady all week and at the end of the week Recovery will finish 10-15 ahead for #1.

Could be wrong but the last time i was wrong was a while ago. I was confident last night that soundscan would have Em at 1.

So i'm confident this week. You have valid points.

I guess we'll see if their album slowed down on iTunes, if Em got back to #1 later in the week like he did last week then Em'll probably sell more.

You could easily be right and Avenged will take it.

But i'm just thinking unlike Rick Ross.

Avenged does not have the track record of sales this high.

People underestimating Em. I love it.

Avenged Sevenfold Gunning For A Possible No. 1 Debut
July 28, 2010 - Retail

By Keith Caulfield

Next week on the Billboard 200 albums chart, rock band Avenged Sevenfold is gunning for a possible No. 1 debut with its new album, "Nightmare." Initial sales projections from industry prognosticators suggest that the album could sell in the range of 160,000 to 180,000 by week's end on Aug. 8.

Of course, as we saw last week, sometimes projections don't always pan out. It's not over until next Wednesday morning when the new chart is unveiled, but if Avenged Sevenfold makes it to No. 1 it'll mark the group's first chart-topper. The band's 2007 self-titled set debuted and peaked at No. 4 with 94,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Eminem's "Recovery" has a chance at holding at No. 1 for a sixth frame. This past week, the album shifted 187,000 with a small decline of just 4% compared to the previous frame. However, that tiny drop in sales was likely owed to the album's sale pricing and promotion at Target and Best Buy. It's a safe bet to think that "Recovery" will see a sizable drop after the glow of the sale pricing wears off -- and that drop could be enough to let Avenged Sevenfold enter at No. 1.

Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" may be the only debut in the top 10 next week. The next-highest entering set could be Tech N9ne's new collaberations offering "The Gates Mixed Plate," which aiming for the top 15.

wow I didn't know about the sale pricing at Target & Bestbuy, if so I guess it's safe to say Recovery will have a harder drop this week. We can only hope Avenged's album sell less than projected then -__-

It wasnt any cheaper at best buy then it is normally. It was just in the Ad's. Not on sale. I don't know about Target but as far as bestbuy they are wrong about that. It was placed in the ads. Target it might have been on sale but not at bestbuy. That is for sure. These people are using that excuse to cover there asses last week because there projections were off. I did not look at the target ad's so idk about that. Did look at best buy. Not on sale.
