He may not be the best in any or all categories (flow, lyrics, delivery etc..) But hes good in every category so that makes up for the lack of "greatness" some may say. Wayne is the only rapper i listen to that i NEVER get tired of hearing, his presence in the booth, on stage, and even in interviews is undeniable and great, that's part of the reason why i got into his music.
His work ethic is unmatched especially if you look at his background, Recorded over 3000 verses and hooks and has over 1750 records and over a thousand unreleased material. Some people may say quality over quality but he release more good music then bad so that term is irrelevant in this sense.
His music is diverse and different from the rest, people may say he sold out by creating pop, rock and other genres of music but if you look at how diverse and different his fanbase is all he is doing is creating music for everyone to enjoy and to maintain his fanbase. I find it funny when people say all wayne talks about is "money, drugs, cars" "he isn't real" in order to be real you have to talk about the struggles and hard times even when that isn't your life? If anything wayne is talking about his life and things surrendering it even if that's money, drugs, cars so that would make him "real"
His lyrics has always been dope, even though every album and or mixtape he does his style changes. The people that doesn't understand or connect in a way with his lyrics automatically label him as "wack" but how can something be wack when you don't understand and comprehend it. He is the best rapper alive in punchlines bottom line, most of his punchlines usually have double entendres but if you don't normally listen to his music you wouldn't understand. He covers all aspects with his lyrics, his content is always good especially with his albums where he vents and talks about deeper stuff in his life. His Multis, internal ryhmes are always on point.
His flow and delivery is good but what makes it great to me is his ability to switch up and create different flows to ride and go with different beats. He has a different style and flow to any beat someone throws at him imo. His delivery is always on point and unique to other artists.
Wayne may have the greatest mixtape list then anyone alive, all of his official mixtapes are labeled as classics or borderline classic to most if not all hip hop critics and reviewers. All his albums are different in terms of style, flow, content and that's why it's hard to compare them but the carter series have always delivered from the street wayne to lyrical wayne to mainstream wayne (c1, c2 ,c3)
There's only a handful of rappers who has been relevant since the '90's and are still able to sell and month after month and have there fanbase increase as well. The idiots that always say it took wayne 12 years to go mainstream or sell alot there only displaying there ignorance, how many rappers can you name have there popularity increase after years? a handful because most become irrelevant by there 2nd or 3rd album.
Wayne is probably the biggest reason and influenced for hip hop's evolution and what it is today. Most young people dress, talk and want to rap like wayne (if not wayne the other reason for hip hop's changed, kanye) When people mention greats they say "hes gonna be the next wayne, jay or eminem" You don't get compared like that because your mainstream. You get that recognition when you become one of the greats.
Sales? His first album at age 15 went double platinum in months. all his album are platinum besides for 3 (two of which is because they have been released this year while he was in jail and had no promotion) but all 3 are still gold and will be platinum in a matter of time. Tha carter 2 is double platinum in the U.S and sold over 2.7 million WW. Carter 3 went platinum in a week and has sold over 3.7 million in the united states as of this week and over 4.5 million WW. from this time last year him and his team (young money) released 5 albums. 1 is platinum (1.3 mill) and the rest are gold with sales of 568k (pink friday, came out 3 weeks ago) 607k (IANAHB) 735k (Rebirth) 678k (We are young money) In a year young money has sold over 3.8 million albums (1 million+ from wayne in prison) In total wayne has sold over 19 million records and over 12 million singles and those number will only increase when C4 comes around.
people wanted my perceptive of wayne, there you got it
