With 50 Cent, his success in the United States and the world was in 2003, but for about 3-4 years before 'GRODT' came out, he literally ran the NY underground. That's why he's still viewed as a big part of the NY king talk.

That's one thing that annoys me a bit when people say Eminem made him. Eminem didn't sign some nobody and made him a star, 50 Cent was big and well known before Eminem touched him. He used to do shows around NY that would sell out in back to back nights well in the thousands.

50 cent worked with Trackmasters and JMJ, he did songs with legends like Nas and UGK, his buzz around that time won't be topped in my lifetime in my opinion. It was a perfect combination of pure raw music, and the reputation he had on the streets. In terms of rappers who came from the streets, he was one of the most active. Everywhere around that time in NY, you would hear about what he did today, what he did yesterday, what he was doing tomorrow.
The New York Times - "Lloyd Banks may have stealthily become the most important rapper in New York".

Hell the Wu called him out for biting Nas' cover on R2D, it wasn't until he died that everyone referred to him as the king of NY.There were tons of rappers when he was a live who were on his level Boot Camp Click, DITC(Lord Finesse, OC, Diamond D, Big L), Mobb Deep, Jay z, Nas, Jeru the Damaja, MOP, the Wu. All these artists are as guilty as we are in nostalgic sacred cowing Big.

How you disagree??
Biggie at about 1995-1997 was the ultimate face of the New York as a rapper.Nobody come close to him back to then.
He had his rivalry with Pac East vs West and he represented the East Coast as the main face.

Can you read? Of course he was the most well known, I'm talking about the other rappers acknowledging him as the King of Ny at the time, when there were other rappers as vital in NY at that era.

I understand you but 50 was perhaps the biggest reason for this.
I mean remember how many times he thanked Em and how many times had praised him.
50 had a potential and a story behind him and Em (with Dr.Dre) helped him to be a big star.

:facepalm Reading comprehension is a bitch isn't it?

Of course he was the most well known (already said this don't knw why I have to repeat it), I was disputing the part where he claimed other emcees allowed him to claim king of ny status at the time he was alive. Show me any other rapper claiming Biggie was the goat or top five when he was alive, other wise I don't want to hear it.

Mobb Deep was also pretty damn big in the mid 90's Prodigy being one of the most sampled rappers after all.

Back to the West coast vs East Coast for almost 2-3 years MC's rarely spoke about their Top-5 as I remember.
