Like Toy Soldiers is still a classic hip hop song because of just the song itself (raps, beat, flow, etc.) and the heavy message it brings on top of it, as far as how dangerous and deadly hip hop beefs can lead to. That's why some people regard it as a gem on a album full of club songs and farting around.

I wouldn't consider it classic at all, lol. His flow and rhymes weren't exactly amazing (which is why I clearly said it was sub-par, for Em's standards). The best part of it was the sample in the chorus & the message, and just like he does all over Encore, he delivers it in a monotonous and robotic voice. He sounds bored, as if he's doing this song because he's expected to discuss the beef somewhere on Encore.

Give him a break. He spent so much energy on it, honestly he's exhausted.

He sounds fine to me, but I agree the raps aren't really that great. And the song didn't really have an extreme, tough rhyme complex so he delivered around the way the beat was made :y:.

This
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

I do give him a break. Yeah, there's a reason why it's not that good. That doesn't change the fact that it's not that good lmfao.

I have never heard a Jay-Z song as bad as My 1st single, Ass like that and Fack so I would say Eminem.

Sure Hova has made some really bad stuff but at least he was serious when he made it. He wasn't just putting out stuff for the sake of it.

Not sure I consider Relapse a part of his downfall. The lyrics, flows, rhymes and stuff like that were topclass. It was just the decision to record most of the songs with different voices that ended up burying the success of the album.

Em without a doubt...

Going from 8 Mile and TES to Encore was such a terrible transition. I just think about how I went from Lose Yourself and Till I collapse to Ass Like That and Big Weenie. As someone said, there are multiple tracks on Encore that NOBODY could be excited about. I just cant think of Jay-Z songs this bad. Add to the fact that Em had farther to fall and that is why he had it worse.

As for LTS, this song is very average for Em.He just puts little feeling into this track to me. The message was great, but its one track I can easily forget.

This was a period where I really had to revisit his diss collection and MMLP & TES to remind myself that this album was just a joke. The one song I'll say I have always liked from that album was "Crazy in Love". I know its not his best work, but its just one of those I always enjoyed.

Looking back on Relapse, initially I was pretty disappointed. There were some good tracks, but overall, I started to doubt how much was in the tank. During and Post-Recovery, another listen to Relapse, and my mind was changed. His flows are so natural and smooth. I will always argue that "Stay Wide Awake" is one of his top 5 songs of all time when it comes to straight albums.

Looking back on it all now, I'm almost upset with myself that i disliked all the accents and the album at first. It pushed Em to become a big punchline rapper (which I enjoy at times), but I really dont think thats when he is at his best. I'd rather hear the Relapse/Refill flows without crazy punchlines.

Sorry for rambling..just got into this thread.

Relapse has some great rhyme schemes, flows, and rhymes but it still isn't better then TSSLP. I think a lot of people misunderstand a great record, and instead fall for great lyrics with shitty material attached to the lyrics. Like Encore, it had some great records, but not really good lyrics on the songs of these records or on this album. Relapse had only one great record as far as a record goes to me, which was Beautiful. Encore had LTS & Mosh and a few other songs that could be debated as records with meaning attached to it, compared to just songs with great lyrics- great multis, punchlines, etc.

Insane was a great record? I'm sorry I hope you know what I mean by great record. Insane is a song about fucking his step-dad and sucking his dick in the shed, that's not great, that's a funny song, and a great fucked up, demented song but not great at all. I'll say Deja Vu was a great record too, and SSAD as well. Stay Wide Awake was an awesome song, but as far as value, it did nothing for me at all. I like Insane but it doesn't belong in the same sentence as Beautiful.
