Like the Chief said, pop is a genre.

that is a hugely subjective "definition" of pop music.... using it however. my little brother (13year old) came home from school one day (i got him into eminem) someone asked him what he was listening to on the bus or something and he said eminem. the girl says "is it love the way you lie or that other one?" [referring to Not Afraid]. clearly his singles from recovery [which are only somewhat different from the rest of the album] appealed to radio fanboy "tweens" as you say.

i agree with acid that eminem is obviously a pop icon and recovery is pop because it is popular. it is obviously a rap/hip hop album (which is what acid said) more than it is a pop album.

I am praying that this deviation of em's to a more radio friendly, mainstream style is a temporary one and his next album (with the influence of Joe budden, and production by dre) will be more eminem and less "tried to fit in every single place every school i went"

it's weird. with relapse when it first came out i didn't like it but now i find myself playing it more and more. with recovery it's the complete opposite. i loved it when it first came out and now i hardly play it at all anymore. maybe it hasn't been long enough yet, or maybe because it isn't good.

People are REALLY still trying to argue that Recovery is a pop album?

:facepalm

If you go to any store with music, such as Best Buy, and you're looking for Recovery, it will be under "Rap/Hip hop"

NOT "Rock/Pop"

Pop IS a genre of music. You can't argue it. Rihanna is a Pop/R&B singer. Her genre has never, and will never, be listed as Hip Hop, even though she's on all kinds of Hip Hop artists' songs. You know why? BECAUSE SHE FUCKING SINGS. She has something to add to Hip Hop songs, her voice. But, Rihanna has NEVER been labeled as a Hip Hop artist, even though she collaborates with them

Em is a rapper, his genre is "Rap/Hip Hop". His genre has never, and will never, be listed as "Pop". Rihanna is featured on ONE song, and he on one of hers. Love The Way You Lie, the beat is a hip hop beat, I don't give a fuck who you are. Rihanna jumps in on the chorus. Suddenly...it becomes pop? Fucking stupid. And Em jumps on part 2, on a POP/R&B album from Rihanna. He raps a single verse. Does this all of the sudden make Rihanna's album a Hip Hop album? No, it doesn't

GTFO

(By the way, I'm NOT trying to sound like a dick in this post, I'm just trying to bring up some points as to why I think it's dumb Recovery is being labeled as a pop album, when it certainly isn't. Like I've stated before, it's a COMMERCIAL album, his most commercial album, but this doesn't make Recovery pop)

Brilliant, now I'm just repeating myself. Being popular does not make it pop. If it does then surely if a heavy metal band became huge tomorrow they'd automatically be pop? Uhm, no.
MMLP must've been pop too then, because it was huge and the first single was loved by loads of kids, amirite? MMLP was anything but pop, just because something is popular does not make it pop.

This!
I like Recovery not because it is a Rap album but because it's a great album. I don't give a damn if recovery was considered pop or rock, it still will be Recovery. Image if critis today would say that TES was more rock than rap, the album, for me, will remain one of the best album ever or the one i like more ;)

Exactly, with all these people pointing fingers, saying Recovery is "pop", they forget that TES was HEAVILY influenced by rock music. Guitar riffs on almost every beat. Does this make TES more rock than rap? It wouldn't really matter if it was, anyway, because it's my favorite album ever, but the answer is no

(I know that you're not taking a side like I am, but I'm using what you said, if you don't mind, because you brought up a good point)

Dude, we're all about opinions here. No one is disputing that at all

What people are disputing is you calling Recovery a pop album, when it's not. It's not about opinion, it's a fact that Recovery isn't a pop album. There's nothing to argue about, yet you kept on, still refusing to believe that it's not pop
