Alot of people find one artist that they like, latch onto that artist (In this forum's case, Eminem) and basically have the impression that everybody else in Hip Hop sucks because of the stereotypes (The 'Everybody portrays a fake gangster image and only raps about money/cars/hoes/the clothes/I suppose' stereotypes) and that no other rapper has any of the traits that their artist has. That is, until they find out just how big this genre is, and how different the music is underneath the surface.
So who was that first underground artist that you listened to and how did you find out about that artist?
I'm almost positive 50% of the answers in this thread will be Immortal Technique. Watch. WATCH.
Anyways, as far as I can remember there was one point in my life where I actually liked Asher Roth, and I'll admit that is because he shared a trait with my favorite rapper at the time (They were both white). So I go onto his Wikipedia and read that somebody dissed him. It turns out there's more than 3 white rappers (Mind = Blown
), and that some old guy named Copywrite made a diss track against him. I thought Copywrite was a stupid fucking name tbh but I checked it out anyways and see this shitI used to listen to that track alot but at the time there were no other videos of him on Youtube other than the 2nd diss and some low budget fan video uploaded by some amateur director so I just forgot about Copy for a year or so until people started bringing him up on forums and shit.

At the time that I was hooked on Canibus' shit, I used to hate mainstream and think that underground equals real shit.
