I think most of us here were like Poetry >>> Any other genre
I don't think anyone was talking specifically about beats....

You mis interpreted my post... I never said any of you guys claimed that poetry is better than other genre, because poetry isn't a music genre, that comparison isn't even logical.

Nor did I claim that you guys were talking about beats. I broke the entire package of Hip Hop music down in components to show how, Hip Hop as music genre, borrowed a lot from different genres.

The point I was trying to make is that music = music. Don't put it in different boxes.

What a ridiculous thing to say lol.

Of course there isn't.

If someone hates hip hop, they hate hip hop. You think there is really a hip hop album for Bill O'Reilly and the millions of people like him in the world?

Why not?
Just because somebody doesn't like the type of hip hop they where exposed to do you really think that means they'd hate it in every form?

In case you haven't noticed, hip hop isn't one genre of music, its atleast 15-20 sub genre's, Southern hip hop differs to East, West, Midwest, Chi-town, etc, and then you have jazz rap, experimental, instrumental, hardcore, abstract, hyphy, Memphis rap, horrorcore, coke rap, gangster rap, politcal rap, battle rap, rock rap, pop rap, etc - do you honestly think somebody would hate every single sub genre of rap music? I'd highly doubt it myself

Your comment is basically saying "if you hate hip hop, thats it, end of", does that also mean if you like hip hop you should like it in every form? No, of course it doesn't, plenty of people on here hate commercial rap, does that mean they hate hip hop? No, because that's only ONE of MANY niches of the genre
Same sword they knight you they gon' good night you with
Sh.., Thats' only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
Don't believe me, ask Michael
See Martin, see Malcolm
You see Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
See Jesus, see Judas; see Caesar, see Brutus
See success is like suicide
Suicide, it's a suicide

You're an idiot, Jazz is one of the genres that has influenced hiphop a great deal. What exactly is "faggy shit"? The only genres I never really listen to is techno and death metal...

This is why people hate rap music and why there is not respect for it from a wider mass :coffee:

It makes rap music look like the least intelligent genre. Hands down.

Fuck all this "no genre is best" talk. Rap is the best genre out there.

Yes, music is universal, and it does cater to taste more, but no other genre can do Hip-Hop. The most variety (i mean look at different kinds of Rap we have and all the different other genres we sample and you can get alot more creative in subject than most other genres by far. And let's face it, since Hip-Hop was rising in the 90's, it was influencing mainstream artists, who they worked with and how tracks sounded, lots of pop then was using Hip-Hop sounds, which only up unto a few years ago lost it's influence to Electronic sounds. Rap embodies poetry more, artists don't have to sing to make you feel what they say. Of course Hip-Hop is infleunced itself, but what genre isn't? I ain't saying fuck other genres but rap is the best genre out there.

Most of ya'lls music library is mainly Hip-Hop i bet aswell....

@ satire I don, t have a cat and I thought we already established that you sent me that pic and a pic of your mother for losing our bet. And so what if I listen to I kissed a girl? You also forgot teenage dream, waking up in Vegas, and hot & cold as well as my chemical romance.

As far as hip hop being the most lyrical genre is debatae, but I'm in my phone rite now and don't feel like typing out an essay as to why I think other genres can be as lyrical.

Concession accepted. And I think they can too, obviously. Anything with lyrics can be incredibly lyrical. But in general, just looking at a wide perspective of all music, if I wanted a "lyrical experience" I would look into hip hop first. It's simply easier to say more in 48+ speedy, rhythmic bars than other forms of writing.

Rap is my favorite genre, but I don't think it is the "best" genre. There is no one best genre. I'm guessing OP is young judging from his stiff, close-minded attitude toward music. There are many genres out there that I listen to. It just depends on the mood I'm in.

I'm not really a fan of jazz. I used to be a hardcore, straightedge punk and listen to that music and that shit still gets me pumped more than any other genre. I love me some Alternative rock, some classic Green Day and Blink-182. I love me some classic rock too. I love me some "indie" rock and I even love me some pop. Taylor Swift is SO talented, Avril Lavigne can tear up a mic, Akon makes some club bangers. Usher and Chris Brown are some of the most complete artists out there right now.

Lyrically Hip/Hop is the best, musically its probably the last. Other genres can have good lyrics and some rap songs have great compositions. Rap is the most complex genre lyrically and other genres are infinitely more capable musically. Neither is better or worse

(Unless we are talking todays standard for "music" then rap wins hands down, cause it seems like all the producers/composers are retarded/lazy these days + all the singers who are either average/terrible and the terrible song writers.) I feel sorry for people that think Usher and Chris Brown are amazing artists or that Taylor Swift is an amazing singer.

For me its very hard to listen to rap and then put on some Bruce Springsteen right after. It really depends on what your feeling at the moment. If you only listen to a single genre then of course your gonna thinks its the best, and it would be very hard for that person to branch out.

It's just this common misconception people have that you have to have 40 bars to be 'lyrical" and spit 10 syllables each line to be lyrical, when you don't rap is probably the only genre that puts so much emphasis on multies and to try and use that as the epoch of lyricism is unfair and biased. Not talking to you specifically but I know lots of people have that idea.

And some of the best lyricist ever aren't even rappers Bob Dylan for example.

The amount of homosexuality that emits from you when you listen to her actual music cancels out any attractiveness of her. Plus, have you seen her without make-up? Atrocious.
