At first yes. I was literally expecting TES 2 but this was completely different. It wasn't as technically good as I thought it would be because after the Forever verse and Relapse, after he did these and said "Okay, now I'm just going to be serious", you can imagine what my standards for the album were like. There were alot of people on saying this could possibly be one of his best albums. Not to say it came out a bad album, I actually like it alot, but it was just different.
It didn't sound like an Eminem album. I didn't listen to it on first leak because I was away from the internet for a couple months, but when I came back and just saw the cover with him walking down the road alone I was like "Uhh okay". Then I turn on the album and I didn't like any of the beats on first listen other than Cold Wind Blows.
There were a ton of sung hooks, bridges, the only guest feature from a rapper was Lil' Wayne, and he wasn't rhyming his ass off ala Relapse other than a few select verses such as On Fire, not to mention his voice...Eminem switches styles every album but this was just "Wow" to me.
At first I was like "Okay, he fucked up 3 times in a row, time to wait for the next album I guess", but then I realized that's retarded so I just took the hands I was dealt and listened to the album again, and I found it getting better with every listen.
Long story short, I listened, it sucked, I listened again, it was meh, listened again, it was good, etc. I ended up playing the full album a total of 29 times, so I'd say in the end I was satisfied with the experience but at first I was felt really disappointed, and that's why I understand when people say that they didn't like Recovery.
