Were you disappointed with Recovery?

Postby FreeSpeech » Apr 16th, '11, 01:54

This is NOT saying Recovery was bad. To me, it was crazy good, a great album for the most part. However, you can still be disappointed with something great. Like, if you won a million dollars, but then they only gave you $500,000 that'd be awesome, but you'd still be disappointed.

My answer: Yes, I was. After hearing The Warning, Despicable, and the Westwood freestyles, Recovery was a bit of a let down. Still great, but not as great as I thought it'd be.

No, not really. A few cringe-worthy lines, but not enough to stop me from loving the album...it's a great album IMO.

At first yes. I was literally expecting TES 2 but this was completely different. It wasn't as technically good as I thought it would be because after the Forever verse and Relapse, after he did these and said "Okay, now I'm just going to be serious", you can imagine what my standards for the album were like. There were alot of people on saying this could possibly be one of his best albums. Not to say it came out a bad album, I actually like it alot, but it was just different.

It didn't sound like an Eminem album. I didn't listen to it on first leak because I was away from the internet for a couple months, but when I came back and just saw the cover with him walking down the road alone I was like "Uhh okay". Then I turn on the album and I didn't like any of the beats on first listen other than Cold Wind Blows.

There were a ton of sung hooks, bridges, the only guest feature from a rapper was Lil' Wayne, and he wasn't rhyming his ass off ala Relapse other than a few select verses such as On Fire, not to mention his voice...Eminem switches styles every album but this was just "Wow" to me.

At first I was like "Okay, he fucked up 3 times in a row, time to wait for the next album I guess", but then I realized that's retarded so I just took the hands I was dealt and listened to the album again, and I found it getting better with every listen.

Long story short, I listened, it sucked, I listened again, it was meh, listened again, it was good, etc. I ended up playing the full album a total of 29 times, so I'd say in the end I was satisfied with the experience but at first I was felt really disappointed, and that's why I understand when people say that they didn't like Recovery.

I enjoyed it on my first listen. But that might be because I didn't have any pre-planned expectations, I hadn't heard any leaks, and I hadn't heard Relapse yet either. Going into Recovery, all I had to compare it to was Crack A Bottle, 3 AM, and his verse from Forever, because they were all on the radio. I didn't go into it comparing it to SSLP through Encore, I just went into it with a blank slate. And I honestly liked it. I put it on repeat and just let it run through about 3 or 4 times in a row, and was already able to distinguish which songs I liked and didn't like.

Overall, I really like it, and I try not to compare it to his past work because this is a different Eminem, a different time, a different sound, and it should just be judged for what it is, not constantly compared. So I try not to do that. I especially try not to compare it to SSLP, MMLP, and TES, because nothing will ever touch those albums. So no, I wasn't disappointed.

Geno wrote:No, it actually exceeded my expectations.

Now I kinda wish he'd calm his voice down a little more like The Warning, but it's not that big of a deal.

Album was great.

I agree almost all songs besides few he always yells or sounds loud.

I was expecting it to be one of my favorite albums of all time and for once, at least to me, the hype was real. I was not disappointed one bit. First time through was just incredible and a year later, I still listen to it quite a bit.

Yes and no, it had some songs I absolutely loved (Cold Wind Blows, On Fire, Almost Famous) and some songs that made me cringe (Not Afraid, LTYL, Spacebound). Voted "yes" though just cuz.

No, Recovery is great as a whole, though I just prefer to listen to the old Eminem so Recovery only gets played maybe once every few months were as the old stuff gets played 24/7.

I'm still bumping it, so no disappointment. I'd pay 1,000 dollar, if his next album would create that same hype and provide the same good mood nearly 1 year after release.
