The pre-Young Money Drake...

You don't think I know that? Obviously I think Kanye's album was better, that doesn't mean he was more dominant. Wayne was killing with features, he was the go to guy in hiphop. Kanye sold more, yes, but Wayne was the hottest name in hiphop. Wayne was kicking mixtapes out the ass at that time.
See, the funny thing is, you honestly can't talk on who was the hottest rapper at the time. You don't live in America, and I feel you weren't even a huge rap fan back in 05 (I could be wrong on that). All you know is what you read on the internet. You never actually witnessed the fact that practically every kid I knew was rocking Weezy and thinking he was the best. Maybe things were the same in your country, but it's honestly pretty irrelevant.

Devil'sAdvocate wrote:LOL,wayne is always hot as fuck here, hes on the same level as Em here![]()
Ive been listenin to rap since 02.
nobody knows kanye here outside of Gold Digger and Stronger, lol.
im just sayin that C2 aint the hottest or best album of 05,thats a FACT

I don't think he's a sellout, he's always made songs for the ladies and whatnot. I'm fine with that, he's making music for people to enjoy. Drake himself wasn't happy with TML, he said it was a rushed project. I liked it, but it was disappointing. If his next album isn't real good, I'll concede he's completely fallen off.

Kez wrote:I wasn't even talking to you lmao. My point is that to defend a rapper by saying "Oh he was good pre-[whatever]" doesn't really help, it just shows that they sold out once they got a deal. Talking as though getting a deal is somehow automatically bound to be detrimental to peoples music.

I know, but I can still answer the question...
And Drake didn't sell out, he still makes the same kind of music, just not as good. He underachieved, nothing more. If you look at TML, he stayed true to his roots. 8 of the 14 tracks are produced by 40, who's been with him from the beginning. He only had one chick on a hook, and that was Alicia Keys, and the song wasn't even a single. The album wasn't dominated by features or anything.

Kez wrote:I ask you, if all this was true, why did he feel the need to justify Drake by saying he was good "before Young Money"?

Lello wrote:the massacre was the BIGGEST (not best) album of 2005 in Lebanon, neither Wayne or Kanye, Candy Shop was the shit and 50 cent was all over the place, disco inferno, just a lil bit etc.....
2003-2005,50 cent owned it

FreeSpeech wrote:I do think YM negatively influences Drake a bit though. That doesn't mean he sells out, I just think that hanging around with Wayne and Nicki is a far worse influence than if he was in NY and hanging with Kanye, Jay, and J Cole.

This I agree with. I mean Young Money are like a fucking plague, they pretty much influenced the whole rap game negatively lately.
