Actually on SSLP he was reacting to finally being famous (Role Model) & being broke for so fucking long (Rock Bottom). On Relapse he was reacting to being gone for so long & his drug problems, only instead of talking about them like a normal person he decided to react to them by being a cross dressing serial killer with an Arabian/British/Jamaican accent. Aside from Deja Vu & Beautiful where he was the emotionalz Marshall that we all love & relate to, right guys?

Amadeo wrote:His first album and Relapse are really the only albums where he isn't talking about his music and its effects all the time. He was making songs about being bullied and being poor/depressed etc.

Then in the MMLP, he reacted to what people said about SSLP. Then on TES, he was reacting to what people said about MMLP and on Recovery, he was reacting to what people said about Relapse and reacting to what people say about his music (25 to Life). On Encore, he was reacting to prescription pills.

My point is I think he's always cared a little too much about how people perceive him and his music. I hope he comes out with some songs that look outside his own bubble on the next album.

As we all know, over-reaction is his only reaction, which only sets off a chain reaction and puts five more zainiac than maniacs in action. At least that's what I always asumed.

In case you haven't notice, MMLP and TES are widely seen as by far his best work. You act like every song is bitching about what people think. Did you ever consider that songs like Way I Am and Criminal are what make Eminem Eminem? Artists talk about what's going on in their lives. If every parent an politician in America hated me with a passion, I might drop a song or two about it. Have you really run out of things to criticize Em for? THIS is all you could think of?

He'll be the first one to tell you that he wants real respect in the hip hop community...that's why he cares what people say and think, he's always cared, and now he can finally admit it and people don't like it. He enjoys being on top right now, it's never been about selling out or money or anything, I think Em just wants people to like his music. BME EP proves he's not a fucking sell out.

Word on Satan, as I drop, fall to my knees before this Quija board and I pray
Now I lay me down to sleep
I do this shit in my sleep, I’m sleepin' now, imagine if I awake

Eminem hasnt spent ENOUGH of his carrer reacting. Music IS supposed to be an expression of self (according to the Marshall Mathers dictionary) and i LOVE it when he does songs like that. When some1 is creative, its awesome for the listener to hear yet, the emotional bond with the music itself could be lost. I agree... sometimes it gets too much but that emotion is what separates great Eminem tracks to post-recovery releases.

E.g, the best IMO track on SSLP was a reaction- Still dont Give a Fuck.
Wonder what he's next album would be if he'd react to the reaction he's got from Recovery
Songs of the year

Um, no, I haven't run out of things to criticize him for. As long as he keeps making shitty songs with Royce Da 5'9", my ammo is unlimited.

I'm not really criticizing Eminem in this thread... just saying that I don't think he reached his creative potential. He spent too many songs over the course of MMLP/TES talking about the effect of his music on other people and the response to his music.

The albums weren't as lyrically creative as SSLP.

Guys, can't you see why Amadeo's so mean? If Royce would leave Em alone, this wouldn't be his M.O.

Amadeo wrote:Yes, he was reacting to things on SSLP, but he wasn't really reacting to opinions on his music, which was my point.

He did on occasion:

Tired of people saying they're tired of hearing me rap about drugs
Tired of other rappers who ain't bringin half the skill as me
saying they wasn't feeling me on "Nobody's As Ill As Me"

But yea, he was reacting a lot more on the likes of MMLP and TES
