I do agree. His voice sounded so forced, it makes the track unlistenable.

Well, it's 3 major things.

1. General aging, your voice continues to change your whole life as you get older.
2. Wear-and-tear of your voice. Spit on a mic almost every day for years and you'll notice that your voice will gradually get rougher (look at Infinite, he almost had the voice of a kid, then look at MMLP, his voice was tearing like crazy -- now he's learned to use that vocal tearing to his advantage)
3. Vocal effects. EQ, compression, and even a little bit of reverb and delay can have a HUGE effect on the way you sound. Em and Dre are masters in a studio, they know how to manipulate vocal effects to get whatever sound they want with ease.

Concept wise or voice wise?

I think concept wise, it may have been forced, in the sense that he felt the need to shock people.

I think he put a lot of effort into the album though. Definitely not lazy, like Encore.

:-k yea concept wise but voice wise he was like struggling to do mmlp but was lost some where that he made up that accent that "one mic" loves . :y:

He used to smoke loads to make his voice raspy for MMLP. Now when he does the shouting he just needs to deepthroat Wayne for a while.

Yeah, its true. Marshall was TAUGHT by Dre how to articulate the way he did on MMLP. Kim took months to practice and perfect. Beautiful- Bagpies- The Warning- Your Never Over - Roman's Revenge- Die hard... it never stops!

The Slip Shady Lp Sounds chilled and happy... my epitone of that album is 97 Bonnie and Clyde and My Name is. He might have been rapping about the darkest material but his mood was happy. Finally outta poverty and Rock Bottom and being with Dre.

Marshall Mathers LP was half an evolution of learning alternating voice and tones from Dre and actual real anger (The Way I am). It is now an outlet of a confused, starstruck public enemy.

The Eminem show is the Musical Climax. Years of positive development, countless shows, rap battles... he is has comes to grips with the celebrity status. The Tone is assured, polished, unrushed, confident. Perfect.

Encore- this is where the drugs begin to kick in Plus, writers block. Sounds like the most "Theatric." He goes into the Studio with Dre and feels a pressure to release Music, continue to be funny, make hits and address personal issues. Yellow Brick road sounds different from all the other introspective tracks of his career. Almost lifeless.

Then comes Relapse. It sounds like a totally different person because it is. This is now someone who relearns how to rap but instead works from technicalities going to the big picture (compare with Marshall Mathers LP). Its an artistic outlet.

Recovery- fully recovered, Eminem still loves music but its not as dazzling as it was before. Its more robotic, more structured, less emotion in the sound. Plus, years of voice degradation (hidden under the accents of Relapse) come to the fore after a negative backslash. Beat selection also pushes him in that direction.

Post- Recovery. Now, its just shouting all the way. Why, i dont know!!

Bad Meets evil- major Royce da 5'9 influence plus lack of pressure and direction means he records in a different mindset.

Just my take on it.
