Satire Presents: Lupe Fiasco Appreciation/Discussion Thread

Postby Satire » May 12th, '11, 03:05

Slimshadylappin's haven. Go away, MC.

There hasn't been many topics about him (other than my hate thread) ever since Lasers dropped and disappointed everyone, so I decided it's time to appreciate him. This is the end all, be all thread. Great lyricism with a smooth flow and delivery over classic & uplifting production, combining into 2 classics and a damn arguably good mainstream album. Even if you hate him, post your favorite songs by him.

There's people that love me and people that hate me. But it's the evil that made me this backstabbing, deceitful, and shady.

I knew that I was too lazy to put in the 're though, and I don't like listening to generic lite hardcore rappers that try too hard with punchlines.

I don't like Mac Miller. Knock Knock and Child Celebrity were good songs though.

Trust me, you cannot RAP better than Lupe Fiasco. You've never recorded a song :facepalm

You might think you can write better, but certainly not rap.

Besides, with this logic wouldn't you not be able to listen to Eminem?

Implying Royce's punchlines are complex LOL, and you're telling that too the wrong person considering I listen to Lupe who does a much better job at trying to go over people's heads than Royce's.

If anyone wants to argue that Lupe is not good then talk to Zu. I promise you will lose.

Eminem is better than Lupe Fiasco

You already admitted to have not listened to much from Royce so you should stop arguing with someone who has listened to his whole discography and knows/understands 95% of his punchlines. Look up his best punchlines that you probably haven't heard anyway...

Anyways I just relgiously started listening to Lupe about a month or so ago, I mean I heard a few songs here and there, but never took the time to listen album to album. Anyways Lupe's great, his rhyming isn't phenemonal (though he surprises me at some tracks), but he's got substance, delivery, flow, and subject matter. Even though he's not a phenemonal rhymer, he's pretty great wordplay wise with homophones.

Hurt Me Soul is one of my favorite rap songs ever, everything was great, the hooks, the instrumental, and the last verse. A perfect example of using the literary technique stream of consciousness, one of my favorite rap verses ever, up there with P's last verse on HOE.

Other great tracks

At Chief I listened to enough songs to formulate a decent opinion of him, that I don't like his style. and I sure as shit am NOT listening to his whole discography just to see if I can like him, don't even try and come at me with the "Name all Royce da 5'9" songs you've listened too.
