diction wrote:Fact is most people who are unfamiliar with you or read your posts would assume (and yes assuming is stupid) that you are one. Nowadays the word stan is given to just about anyone that listens to the music of said artist religiously and defends them and their music against most other artists, that's really all the criteria needed to be a stan.
Well in that case I'm not a Stan under that criteria either. I don't listen to Eminem religiously, I listen to him maybe once a week. I listen to Kanye, Nas and many other artists just as much if not more... so I don't see how listening to somebody regularly makes you a Stan.
As for defending him against most other artists, no - I'll defend ANY artist, or
anybody on the grounds of logic. If somebody said X artist's song is better than X song by Eminem and I genuinely thought it was too, I wouldn't defend Eminem and say his is better, just because it's Eminem. I'm defending the work (any work) on the grounds of logic and / or taste.
So surely you need to at least do that otherwise the definition is so broad that to be a Stan, all you need to basically do is like an artist's work lmao. Which is just absurd. There needs to be a level of blind bias, which I never have. I'm logical, and I look at Em's work the same as I do anybody else's.
Now, if it happens that he impresses me more than anybody else, that's just matter of fact. But then I'll also say when I think he's jumped the shark, passed it, missed the mark or whatever else. Just like I would ANY artist. That's just normal.
Again, anybody who doubts or wants to challenge anything I've said here, I'd be quite happy to go and dig-up many of the posts I've made on say Kanye. And I'm no Kanye Stan either. I just like what he does as an artist and, I focus on a handful of artists. I'll give anybody that - my taste is not broad and wide, I'm simply too obsessive a thinker and there isn't enough time in the day. So I hop from one artist to the next and study them for a while...
But again, there's no blind bias or everlasting Stanship. I think a Stan of Eminem at least has to be something like the 15 year old girls you see screaming and crying and the type who if you dare even criticize a single element of a lyric or song flip out and say he's the greatest and he can't do anything wrong. And THAT -
does exist. And I'm
not that.
