until lupe raps with convection and steps his rhyming game up then no.
Royce > Lupe

But was he better than Lupe Fiasco ?
Im not going to say yes on every song, but he was better more times than not.
But most of the times Lupe Fiasco has better subject matters than Royce Da 5'9"
C'mon, most of Lupe's tracks have a point, even songs on Lasers have a point, even if the song doesn't have a subject matter there's always a story that you can learn from "The Coolest" you can learn to not be greedy, and not to aim to be the world's highest, in Hip Hop Saved My Life there's the "never give up" lesson .. these are all stories you can learn from .. leave alone tracks that are done on the same subject such as Words I Never Said and American Terrorist .. That dude can bring a point on everyone of his tracks
Off-topic : I think I'm Back > Not Afraid, but it isn't a "disgrace" that they're both mentioned in the same sentence, they're both dope but I'm Back is better than Not Afraid and that's it

diction wrote:No Royce isn't more skilled, I hate Royce's delivery especially DIC. And yes I listened to DIC and found it completely bland and generic tbh, not even trolling, not to mention I hated the production other than Premier's track.
I guess I'll give Royce flow and rhyming but that's it. as a lyricist, Lupe annihaltes Royce. Storytelling, wordplay, and concepts/substance. If double entendres count as punchlines well than this shouldn't even be a question as Failure is all you really need to point too, layered double entendres with a theme that lead to the other and isn't just pretentious pseudo garbage.
Oh and F&L is definitely an established classic, The Cool is debatable but it's not flawless and has a lot of skippable tracks, though the highpoints are definitely great.
Oh and what's this garbage about Lupe not having flow, I'm starting to think you guys believe rapping fast=good flow. Which btw Lupe can easily do.

Storytelling? First of all, have you heard Part Of Me, Murder, On The Run or Taxi Driver? I doubt it. I prefer Royce on that aspect. And guess what? All those songs touch on something important and not only his dick and his guns, a big misconception that Royce's songs are 50% about those.
I prefer The Cool tbh. F&L isn't a classic in my eyes, The Cool is.
No one said otherwise but Lupe's flow is no match for Royce's. Lupe has a decent flow but Royce has has one of the best ever (not only opinion).

diction wrote:You can laugh all you want but I was serious, I find it bland and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
I only listened to DIC and a few songs here and there, but I haven't listened to his whole discography. I listened to Murder and the instrumental sounded like nails on a chalkboard and was distracting as shit while trying to pay attention to the lyrics.
You want Lupe storytelling songs, how about the Cool , Sunshine, HHSML.
And I never claimed that Royce is only one of those rappers, not that I give a shit if rappers are one of those as long as they pull it off with tact.
And I don't consider DIC a classic, it's only opinions really. I do believe that most people prefer F&L over The Cool, and no I'm not saying that because more people prefer it that makes it classic in case anyone wants to strawman.
Lupe's flow is great and can switch it up whenever he wants Switch, Go Go Gadget Flow, Hurt Me Soul.
Other than the fact that Royce can rap fast, I don't see what makes him so great.

Master Chief wrote:Can you acknowledge that it's good at least but not your cup of tea?
I can see how it can distract you but you thought it was sonically bad? You must be gay, n.igga. Oh and your extremely new to Royce. You haven't listened to Royce's peak in flow which is his recent stuff...
Yes, I've listened to those. Quite a few times. I've listened to everything Lupe has released.
I was just saying for those idiots that don't listen to music but just skim through it.
Yeah I know but The Cool's highs are extremely impressive. So high, the few lows really don't do much damage to the overall album.
The thing is Lupe doesn't switch it up much. He does but not a lot.
Royce has an extremely smooth flow. I prefer his flow to Biggie's tbh. Royce can rap fast but he can rap slow too. You just haven't listened to 2007-now Royce which is when his flow became amazing. Royce Is Like flow > *

diction wrote:Well you claimed that was one of the best Hip Hop albums, and true artists should be able to have their work appreciated without you being familiar with their craft.
And the beat Murder was distracting as fuck, the thing I liked about many of Lupe's songs (Sunshine, Daydreamin, Hurt Me Soul (no teally a storytelling song)) is how he fits the mood of the beat perfectly and doesn't have you scratch your head as to why he picked the instrumental for that song.
Cool, have you taken the time to really sit down and listen. And I'm not saying you're one of those guys, but I can easily lie and say I listened to everything Royce put out and just google his songs when you aske me. A lot of people do that.
But you can't call an album a classic if it has too many blemishes no matter how much the highs outweigh the lows.
What are you talking about Outty 5000 is completely different from Streets on Fire, and Sunshine.
And Switch is alone a testament to the fact that he can easily switch up his flow if he wanted, hence the title track switch.
I listened to DIC, which you claimed is his best album so...
And I listened to his airplanes freestyle, good flow, but I hated the content and subject matter. And I could see he's the type rapper I already won't like.

Master Chief wrote:Yeah but DIC is a classic for non-technical/flow reasons. I mean, Royce has always been fantastic technically but this album is a classic for the passion/anger, production and content. Of course, it's good technically but this album isn't about that.
I think the beat fit perfectly. The rain sound effects, the vocals in the background, the sad vibe.
The Cool doesn't have many lows besides Go Go Gadget flow.
The subject matter is about his rise to the top. Just making sure you know lol...

Goddamn, and that Interscope line![]()
That song itself shitted on every single Royce punchline song tbh, and it's in my top 5 favorite Lupe songs of all time.

diction wrote:My gripe with the album is how poppy it sounds and it doesn't fit Lupe at all, some of the choruses ruin the songs.
