christalgurl wrote:Hip hop music is the most complex genre of music when done correctly. Most other artists get "songwriters" to write their songs for them or write only some of their music, while in hip hop, the artist writes each and every piece of music they put out. Hip hop uses so many writing techniques that other styles of music don't use, such as metaphors, punchlines, rhyming, multis, etc. Real hip hop music always comes from the heart; it's a passion. Hip hop music is a whole culture, unlike so many other genres. Hip hop can make you laugh, cry, feel angry, any emotion you can think of, hip hop will make you feel it. There's no way to say that's below any other music form. Stop being so judgmental and close minded. Hip hop music is just as important as any other genre, if not more. Expand your knowledge of the genre before you judge it.
Hip-hop is far from the most complex genre. Lyrically (which I THINK is what you're trying to say), I would agree it definitely takes more skill than most other genres. But musically, it is definitely one of the most simple.
Saying most other artists get songwriters to write their songs is a bit of an exaggeration. That's only the real talentless motherfuckers out there who are only famous because of their looks or "nice singing voice". Meaning bubblegum pop shit. Which, of all the music being made around the world, is a small, small minority.
Typically, hip-hop is based around looping and sampling, which is very easy to do. Sampling someone else's music is far easier than writing from scratch. If you listen to a typical Dre beat, it's based around one main bass line which loops throughout the entire track, then will alternate between maybe two or three more melodies played on a synth, keyboard or guitar which are taken in and out of the mix.
Compared to a lot of music, hip-hop is rarely structured in a creative way. It usually just consists of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, verse, chorus. Occasionally you'll get a bridge or some scratching thrown in there.
In saying that, the simplicity of hip-hop music benefits it because, in essence, it is all about the lyricism. But I can't wait to see hip-hop evolve to become more progressive and musically interesting.
