Thats kind of what i meant, but i would call 'Slim Shady' a style, like i would call 'eminem' a style. what i'm saying, is that songs like spacebound are different to, say, go to sleep. This is the different styles/ personas/ alter egos that marshal uses, and recently it seems he has been eminem more than slim shady. He has been less agressive in his lyrics, and the beats he has used dont sound as 'aggresive'. Sure, he didnt make the beats himself, but hopefully you get what im trying to say. (I know what im trying to say, i just don't know how to say it)
But i do agree, that he is the same person in all his albums.
But Slim Shady is not a style. It's a mindset. Slim Shady is just the angry or surreal side of Eminem, that's transcendent of style. Slim Shady is not a rap style.
On "Almost Famous", when Em says "I stuck my dick in this game like a rapist, they call me Slim Rothelsberger" - you think that's not Shady? it isn't a clear definition. It's just a part of him, a side to him, that he's given a name and because of that people think it's one thing.
People only think there's a strict definition or separation due to his zany singles. All they did was exploit and exaggerate his Shady side and put it into a song format. But on those songs, he still says things 'as Eminem' and 'as Marshall' too. It's part of him.
And of all things, how the hell can you say he's been less aggressive lmfao. Are you kidding me? are you even listening to him lately. He's more aggressive than ever. I think what you might mean is he's not as good. But he's aggressive as fuck.
Back in the day he was usually aggressive when he had a reason or for a story or something, now he's aggressive like he's addicted to aggression and for its own sake. "Cold Wind Blows" and "Almost Famous" are two of his most aggressive songs ever, period.
And listen to him on Hell: The Sequel, "OUTLANDISH!!!! THESE WORDS ARE WEAPONS THAT I BRANDISH!!!" (eyes pop out of head). Whether you like his new styles or not is total preference but at least characterize what he's doing properly. As saying he's not aggressive now is so incorrect. He's so aggressive that he's had to start taking the piss out of his own aggression ("slut this!, slut that! learn the words to the song!) and basically busts a blood vessel every time he raps.
Il give you that one, some of his newer songs are pretty angry, but he doesnt stick to one 'mindset' throughout an album, i was saying that on average, he seemed to do calmer songs in recovery; not all the time, but i'd say just over 50%. Songs like 'Lighters' (not on recovery... oh well), 'Spacebound' and 'youre never over' seem a bit calmer. I would mention 'difficult' but thats a bit of a one off, so im not really going to count it.
In HTS he did seem more angry, so maybe recovery was a one off, but Recovery he did seem a bit calmer. To me anyway.
This is an arguement i cant see myself winning, but im gonna keep going.
