I mean I'd bet all of his albums prior to recovery totaled as many non-em hooks as recovery did

Well we know that he was trying to make a mainstream album.

And there's only so much international influence or grasp most rap choruses have unless they're insanely catchy, annoying, or brilliant ("Lose Yourself").

He wanted to connect with the world obviously and large sung hooks is one aspect to that.

Something tells me this isn't the final version. Seems to me Em would have a verse in between his bridge and the final chorus. If you listen closely it kind of cuts out between the bridge and chorus as well. Don't know though, probably not.

They were all praising his hook until Koolo came in and said the word balls ruined it. I swear these guys jack off every night to Love The Way You Lie in secret so Koolo don't ban them then bash it on the internet latter.

Hahaha genuinely made me laugh! Quote of the fucking week! :worship:

Regarding the hooks, I really think Em should go back to doing his own. I'm not a fan of Recovery's hooks, and I would rather see an Em album with an excess of features than with an excess of third-party hooks. Some third party ones can work beatuifully (Stan, Sing For the Moment, Till I Collapse etc) but on an album, to me, it suggests towards laziness. The MMLP has some of his best hooks ever: literally every track is catchy, witty, meorable, and brilliant. With that in mind, I was pleasantly surprised by his hook here, however it will take a few listens before it's distinctively memorable.

If you like his hooks so much then why are you pleasantly surprised with this one?

This is a hook though not a verse and they're mostly not unlistenable.

As Sekou said. Note that I never commented on whether I liked any of his recent hooks. From 2010 onwards, I think the vast majority have been distinctly average compared to his previous work.
Personally, I'd love to hear another brilliant hook from him which he raps ( like Who Knew, SDGAF, Criminal et al)

I don´t like Jeezy´s part, I don´t like Eminem´s chorus, Freddie was decent. Not bad lyrics though.

It will be impossible to call anything he does now amazing if you keep comparing it to his older work.

Ooh get ya claws out girl. :slut:

Hell the sequel was completely unlistenable was it? Sites like hip hop dx, Complex or allhiphop were wrong were they? sites that live & breathe the culture of hip hop & listen to hundreds of rappers.

Or do you know something they don't? Tell us man!

I'm not refuting that; however I do believe Eminem has it in him to release some aweseome tracks (GTC, Deja Vu would be examples for me of him nearing his earlier quality) and in any case, it's good to use his whole discography as a basis for comparison, but really the case now is whether he can better the music he has made since his recovery.
What this hook has shown is that he can maintain that calm, melodic voice without hearing it braking and sounding 'whiny'. Take the Reunion: i think that is a pretty dope hook (in comparison to the tracks released by him post-2010) but the way his voice cracks, it makes him sound whiny.

But in any case now I'm just being overly-analytical. From flistening to music, I believe that you can generally make your mind up on whether you like a track or not after, perhaps, half a dozen listens. I've listened to this a hook a few times now, and my overall impression has been considerably positive. I haven't felt this way about an Eminem feature (be it hook or verse) for some time.

True

By the way, what do you think of 'Life's too short'? Has Ricky Gervais fallen off? I vaguely remember you being a big fan of his..
