Is there a video of him battling Marvwon? That's pretty fucking cool, I've always like Marv's style. I remember watching those 8 Mile extras but was probably before I was into battle rap.

Is Justice the Australian guy? Never really properly watched him. Illmac's probably my favourite of all time, especially since he's come back strong as fuck in the last year or so.

Yeah, Illmaculate has a "God mode," and when he's in it, he's pretty much unbeatable. Examples are the two The Saurus battles and the battle with Eurgh at Don't Flop. Nobody else in the world would have beaten The Saurus in that Don't Flop battle...that one was just ridiculous.

Yeah, Justice came over from Australia and won Scribble back in 2005. He just throws the kitchen sink at you. He has occasional premeds that he will recycle like just about everyone else, but he's also a threat to flip everything you say to him. I've only seen him lose one battle in all the videos I've watched of him on Youtube - to Anecdote, when he was still emerging.

His Sauras battle is ridiculous. The scheme about Sauras using obvious angles then dismissing face jokes was one of the most dead on, potent and well delivered lines in battle rap. And I bet Eurgh was pissed off, produced probably his best perfomance and got absolutely murdered. Then got beat by a casual Sauras. I heard Illmac is going to be back at Don't Flop this year. Not sure who the hell they could really give him that would make it fair. Possibly Cruger, he has some interesting angles.

I'll check him out, 360's the only Aussie battler I've properly got in to (and that blind guy who Illmac faced not long back). I guess I was put off by morons like Decoy.

Eminem didn't battle during the generic setup - punchline, generic setup - punchline era. I'm not entirely sure who first introduced that (Eyedea?), but it's a tool that completely changed the game. Now you're expected to come with non-stop personals/relevant disses, or you don't really have a prayer.

And that's in the rare moments where it actually is a freestyle battle.

When it's a written battle, it's a foregone conclusion. 5+ syllable multis every line with non-stop relevant disses.

Eminem could do that format, but he'd have to actually get to know shit about the guys in the Grind Time scene first.

Started responding and realized it was basically going to be this^ reworded.

However, I'd like to add that these days a solid flip is quite exalted. Which requires you to be on your feet, and a quick thinker. For instance, Twist will remove the 2 weakest bars from his shit, and put the flip directed at the opponents previous round where those 2 bars would be. This may seem easier than it is, but you have to really be able to block out your surroundings to think that clearly.

Unfortunately, Em's simply horrible at off-the-top freestyling. Which is necessary at a certain point, unless you're fuckin Khan who's only slipped up once, and still won. But then you have that whole other tier of battle MC's are are almost completely off-the-top. Diz for example. Diz is the pinnacle of battling simply because he can just go for a fuckin hour and tear your soul down with every bar for as long as he wants really.

I'd start with these and you'll end up finding opponents that you like. Grind Time is pretty much finished now though, King of the Dot (Canada) is where most of America's best battle these days
