I honestly see no problem with a song about killing Kim.
Me neither. I don't feel it's any different than, say...someone writing in their journal that they want to kill their wife who cheated on them, was a bitch, etc, etc. Obviously this is a much more public platform, but since Em uses his music as a personal journal, I don't see a problem with it.
Totally agree. I used "Kim" as an inspiration for my final music project in school. You can't get much more passionate than vividly describing the mutilation of the person who wronged you that you had such intense feelings for. It's fucking beautiful.
Yes! Thank you. It's a creative fucking outlet, and yes there IS an
enormous gulf between writing and recording a
song about killing your lover, and
actually being physically aggressive towards them (or even just mentally abusive), in person.
And I don't buy that Kim was all that offended by those songs. I mean, I don't think she's made of stone, and she probably was hurt, but not so hurt that she's
still holding a grudge. I mean, there comes a time, where the punishment no longer fits the crime. Plus, I think she's been through way too much
actual hurt and abuse to give a shit about a couple of songs by a guy whose career she doesn't even take seriously. She probably just rolled her eyes, and was somewhat irritated, but I would imagine she kind of just carried on with her life pretty soon after, and just enjoyed her riches, and dealt with her
real problems (some of which, I'm sure, did involve Em).
