Are you implying that Kendrick Lamar is remotely close to eclipsing Lupe Fiasco?

Fuck it, let's switch this Kanye vs. Eminem debate into something new.

No, I'm saying he's already eclipsed Lupe Fiasco.

Lupe Fiasco is a delusional corporate puppet. Kendrick Lamar is an eloquent thinker. Its not even close IMHO. (right now that is- Lasers, FOTP and F&L2)

Gotta agree with name, even though I'm kinda biased. But Lupe's complexity and his ability to have 2-3 meanings in many lines and even in a whole song is just amazing. No one is on his level when it comes to that. He also menages to push messages along those riddling/mind-fucking lines.

Also, his concepts and storytelling are incredible too. His use of personification goes very deep, and he's been able to create characters and stories out of scratch, and has explored them on several levels. He has a very wide range of reference, ranging from Japanese Comic Books, to American Cartoons, Video Games etc. On top of that he's educated on fields like politics and has rapped on variety of topics.

Further more, his flow and intonation patters, especially in 2006-07 were untouchable and didn't rely on rhyming. Kendricks flow is amazing, but his voice is usually the same, it's the strings of rhymes/certain words that make it more appealing. Not that that's bad, but Lupe's play with his voice (check out Dead Presidents Freestyle, Mean And Vicious, or Switch) is perfect. Also, F&L and The Cool are considered classics by many people, so his body of work is great as well.

I still don't know how he programmed this flow to sound so dope.

:flutter:

Haha, perfect timing bringing that track up. I hadn't heard that in a while, and it's been on repeat these past few days (along with Theme Music To A Drive-By and Go To Sleep). His flow is ridiculous on it. The way he brings in that -ived sound, while riding the shit out of the beat in between is amazing. Also, towards the end when he starts with "who is he that we see..." to "rapping and fashion collide", that string of rhymes and breath control is breathtaking. Favorite part is when he refers to Jack Sparrow and says "haha, surprised", and that last line with the internet acronyms usually makes me LOL myself.

Listen to "Complicated", "Murder One", "Stop Cryin", "Body on It", "Put Ya Hands Up", "Run Up on Me", "Dial 911", and tell me that those are bad tracks. (especially when you are a fan of an "old" Fifty you have to like those)

my vote: 50 Cent
