Maybe Interscope heard them talking about a mixtape and told them they cant do it. You never know all the details. Will I be upset if a mixtape doesnt come before the album? Sure. But I'm still buying Welcome to: OUR HOUSE day one if I like it when it leaks.
Maybe it is the right thing to do and I respect your opinion and I accept that there are a lot of things going on in the background we don't know shit about. We should support music as fans, I agree on that too.
But - and it's the last time I write it down - I didn't want Slaughterhouse to become a cog in the mean machine of mainstream music. If that's the case as you say it and they can't take a shit without Interscope permission it was a grave mistake to put it like they did on the interview with Jenny Boom Boom. It was a loud and clear statement about doing a mixtape for fans. And it wasn't the first time they were talking about things that have nothing to do with reality. They knew how it is with major labels, they had to because the urban legend says it was the common thing they shared. They were the blue collar workers of rap with talent and with no leash. Now it's just constant bullshitting. I don't like that and I'm losing faith in them. I can't respect what they are doing in the last few months.
I buy a lot of local underground stuff (I'm from Europe by the way) because these MCs put a lot of effort into actually making a record, I mean a physical copy, and they keep losing money because their shit is on Youtube the day after the release. And one more day later it's on the internet. And they have no label support, they work 9-5 and in their free time they're making music out of passion. Some of them can make a living from live shows but most of them still can't dedicate their life to music no matter how dope they are.
Slaughterhouse was similar but on a different level of course. And I respected them for it. Joe Budden said that he gives a shit about major label deals, he connects with fans because that way he'll still have his people even if a deal goes wrong. But especially Royce acts like a good soldier of the label and swallows every pill and keeps putting it a way like it has to happen like it does and it'll all be good in the end. And maybe he has to but I don't and won't.
'Don't worry about the push back, you have to trust us a little more'. And why is that exactly? They didn't give us
one thing to be optimistic about in this whole fucking year. Only a promise of an independent mixtape with the raw material - oh, shit, I'm wrong again because they kinda take that back also.
Sorry, but I can't support
that. Promises, disappointment, bullshit, more promises, more disappointment and even more bullshit. Honestly I believe they
can't put out an album that will be able to wash away the stain of this shitstorm poured out of the Shady/Interscope camp. But if, and it's a big
if, they can prove me wrong, I'll may change my mind on this.
