Relapse underrated?!?! Relapse 2 as a bonus album?

Postby NeonGameWave » Sep 27th, '12, 03:22

Now there are many that hate Relapse with a passion and consider it to be one of Eminem`s worst albums and there are those who appreciate the album, but like me there are those who realize how amazing the album truly was in terms of not letting silly reasons like the accent or subject matter get to us. I personally think the album is a classic and a really genius rap record. Many people complain about the accent, and that it is annoying but don`t understand the sheer genius of Eminem when in regards to representing the theme. Relapse had phenomenal production, amazing flow, breathtaking lyrics, and had great storytelling theme! My favorite tracks are Underground, Deja Vu, Beautiful, Insane, 3am, My Mom, Stay Wide Awake, and Medicine Ball as well as the bonus tracks, I also like the Relapse: Refill tracks. Another thing I forgot to mention is the fact that many seem to use the whole Eminem hate card in which they say Eminem addresses the album in songs such as Talkin 2 Myself, Not Afraid, and Cinderella Man, saying that he hates the album. But honestly it does not change my opinion, who knows, Eminem can even personally see it as some of his best work. I liked how Eminem addresses the situation in a funny as well as interesting way while showcasing his great storytelling abilities on the song called The Reunion that features Royce Da 5`9 in what we all know is considered to being not only one of the best tracks but one of the fans favorite tracks from the Bad Meets Evil: Hell the Sequel EP.

Now personally the accent did sound strange, weird and unnecessary to me at first but once I started to listen to it more often, having an open mind, I really actually enjoyed the album as I consider it to be an underrated classic. Now if the accent did annoy you or make you hate the record I do understand where you are coming from but at the same time I can`t really see how that makes the album worse than Encore. I was also wondering if you guys want to see a Relapse 2 in the future without the addition of accents and I agree, if Relapse did not have the accents it would of worked out better but at the end of the day everyone has a different opinion. I would love to see Em make an official Relapse 2 without the accent and with a new as well as refreshing theme. I know many are going to dismiss the idea and say that Relapse: Refill was a sequel when in reality it actually wasn`t. It was extra material for the album. So do you guys want to see a Relapse 2 without the accents and in the form of a bonus album from Em? What direction would you want to see Eminem take it in? I agree that the Slim Shady on Relapse is different in comparison to the one that we saw on the Slim Shady LP but I always saw the situation as this being the Heath Ledger version of Slim Shady, do you agree? Let me know! Now if this was already brought up within the forum in some shape or form, forgive me and its nothing personal I just wanted to elaborate on the matter. By the way another underrated classic or great album for me is also Recovery but that is a discussion for another day.

I enjoyed the subject matter and the accents.

If you don't like Relapse, then fuck you.

I remember when someone posted an image of a fucker who made a photoshop of a card that was supposedly going to be on Recovery that allowed you to download Relapse 2. I think I busted a nut when I saw that.

That fake Relapse 2 looked so real when he admitted it was fake I didn't believe him and kept pressing him about it until he finally posted pictures step by step of how he did it. Oh Relapse 2. How I want you.

You know I meant in the sense of not letting those reasons make us want to determine the quality of the album without actually understanding what the artist was trying to aim for or what he had to work with? :confusion:

The accents are awesome, overall the creativity on ''Relapse'' is a masterpiece. You are wrong about many people considering this album his worse or hate it with passion, especially reasonable ones. Plus most importantly a lot of big artists like Chuck D, KRS-One, Jay, Nas, Kanye etc. said it was crazy way back when.
I'm sure the ''critics'' on this or some other sites don't count, as most of the time their opinions are totally irrelevant. When nerdy geeks write they're disappointed by Eminem because of this line, that thang or whatever it doesn't really mean many people think that way esp. 'cuz those ''critics'' don't even know the culture of hip-hop 'cuz they grew on Shakespeare.
The hook on ''We made you'' gave people the wrong impression especially since it was a video single, so basically most of the people who hate on ''Relapse'' haven't even heard the whole album but just the singles.
Of course ''The Refill'' wasn't a sequel to ''Relapse''... & ''Relapse 2'' was definitely not supposed to be a bonus album to it as well. It probably was heading for a double album at first but then the material was even too much for that so it was planned for two albums recorded together but coming one after another.
I explained the whole situation on that ''King Mathers'' thread so if you're interested check it out.

You say "not letting silly reasons like the accent or subject matter get to us" as if accepting it as a fact that the subject-matter and 'accent' (s) are bad :confusion:

The subject-matter and style and delivery, and flows and voices of Relapse are what make the album for me; I LOVE the cadences and styles on the album, and find it all very addictive; and I love the verbose and overly descriptive writing and graphic ideas.

Those things aren't a flaw for me, they are the pluses.
