I tend to agree with him on some things, but he tends to lean towards the pitchfork crowd.
I always agree with Anthony's reviews

he gonna give this album a decent 5 or a light 6

He isn't a "bad" singer, but I just can't stand it. Don't see the hype and I just don't like it. I remember trying to listen to nostalgia, ULTRA when it first came out and just slammed my laptop shut. Smashed the screen, had to get a new one.

Some tracks Jay went in, and others not so much. I found it a bit disappointing tbh. I'm still gonna give a couple more listens before I pass my final judgement.
He did that "new school" flow on like 3 songs out of the 16....
He went vintage Jay on some of them and used the flow he's been using since American Gangster on the rest.
Great, now this is going to turn into a Nas vs. Jay thread

I thought it started off ok as well. Holy Grail and Picasso Baby are amazing songs and even Tom Ford fits nice there, but Fuckwitme is just terrible and really slows the momentum down on the album. The middle of the album is solid and then Heaven comes in, which is probably my favorite track on the album.
The last half of the album is definitely the strongest (although Beach is Better is a wtf moment, that should've been longer).
This album has a 10/10 inside of it, unfortunately there were too many fillers that prevent it from being that. Still a very solid album in my book and the perfect album for Jay to make at 43.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense. A lot of those filler tracks just kill the vibe for me. I still feel some of the lyrics are subpar though. I guess I was expecting to much, I should probably going to my next listen with a different state of mind.
I got what I was expecting tbh.
After you listen to it again, try this....
1.Holy Grail
2.Picasso Baby
3.Tom Ford
4.Open Letter
5.F.U.T.W
6.BBC
7.Versus
8.Oceans
9.Somewhere in America
10.Heaven
10.Part II
11.Crown
12.Jay-Z Blue
13.La Familia
14.Nickels & Dimes
This flows much better imo and would've made it a strong 9.5
