You're forgetting the hooks. They were mostly terrible.
The only tracks where I was feeling the production were On Fire, Seduction, Session One, Ridaz, Untitled. Lyrically though Recovery was dope. His flow was on point and he dropped the accents. Em was more apologetic about Relapse than Encore.
Flow was on point, I'll give you that. Dropped the accents, great. However, you're forgetting the fact that Em suddenly forgot how to rhyme sometimes (Cinderella Man) or rhymed too much and ended up with a shit of a song (Won't Back Down).
Oh, and let us not forget the main negative. Metaphors, similes, and wordplay. Biggest example of this is Won't Back Down, which is just a gigantic mess of random shit. Recovery sucked DICK in this aspect.
Both Encore and Relapse had garbage tracks, both had some dope tracks too. I rate those albums fairly similar, I'm sorry but I honestly believe those are his two worst and he'd probably tell you the same thing. Even still, I rate them as B-/B albums. It's just Em hasn't put it all together since Eminem Show and 8 Mile. Hopefully he can on MMLP2, though I'm skeptical after Berzerk. And I pray to god Survival is a bonus or doesn't make the final cut at all. The verses are solid and pretty good, but the chorus ruins the whole thing, and it's another weak Khalil beat.
Lol no. How the fuck are they on the same level? Aside from garbage tracks ie. Beautiful and Underground, the whole album fit together fine. Great. Fantastic. Tell me EXACTLY what sucked about Relapse besides the accents (which weren't even that fucking annoying).
Berzerk is alright, nothing to write mother about though. The hook is catchy, for sure. I like the hook. His first verse is pretty solid, though it starts off way better than it finishes. The 2nd verse starts off good, than it goes all of the place, not terribly but yeah. The 3rd started off good too, has it's moments, but he ruins it with that whack toe jam line. Overall, Berzerk is somewhere between his best lead singles, My Name Is/Real Slim Shady/Without Me and his worst, We Made You/Just Lose It/My Band (d12). I'd rate it 7/10 probably.
2nd verse is intentionally bad. Go to Rapgenius to read the lyrics, you'll appreciate it a fuckload more. Yeah, they reach a bit with some of the explanations, but it's still good.
I know it was intentionally bad, I like how he was making fun of stuff, but it was still all over the place. Em used to make fun of people and rhyme like a real lyricist on it. Berzerk is alright, nothing to make noise about though. It'll be a big hit though, thanks the the hook.
The funny thing is Beautiful and Underground are probably two of the better tracks on Relapse. A lot of stuff had some good lines here and there, solid wordplay, but Em felt tired as a whole on Relapse. I don't know. I felt he lacked luster for the most part.
I'll take Never Enough, Yellow Brick Road, Like Toy Soldiers, Mosh, Mockingbird over 3AM, Same Song and Dance, Old Times Sake, Medicine Ball, must be the Ganja, etc.
But they equal out to me because Big Weenie, My First Single, Ass LIke That were probably his worst songs ever.
