8 reasons why 50 cent fell off

Postby ladelsofgravy » Sep 5th, '13, 18:49

1. inner conflicts with record company, and them not wanting to promote him
2. eminem's hiatus hurt shady/aftermath, including 50 cent
3. he was more about style and image rather than lyrics
4. GRoDT set a standard so high, 50 cent himself couldnt meet it
5. 50 literally represented the mood of the early 2000's crunk/thug era, making him less welcome in the late 2000's fresh/swag era.
6. 50 cent's material after GRoDT was declining in quality, imo
7. his many beefs with over a dozen artists eventually got to him
8. new york is competitive rap scene. it's hard to stay on top for a while

yes, and that's reason #9. he's made hundreds of millions in business. before, rap was his money maker, but now it's not really economical for him to invest his time and money into his rap career, but it's something to do on the side for fun because he wants to.

he was always business minded. i think the plan was always to make millions in rap and then invest it.

still, 50 cent is an international icon. ask anyone, almost everyone has heard of 50 cent. but they probably heard nothing from him since 2005 though.

I agree with this. He was a marketable, buff black guy with a 'gangster' image who was hyped up beyond belief due to his affiliation with Shady/Aftermath. Combine this with some dope ass beats from Dr. Dre, and the cult member-esque Stans who felt obligated to support anything Shady/Aftermath related, and you had a highly successful artist on your hands back then.

50 cent was perhaps the best image a rapper could have. men thought he was cool. women thought he was sexy.

no doubt, yet had he had no image, he wouldn't have had anything at all.

honestly, 98% of rappers fall off. 50 cent knew he was likely going to fall off so he used rap as a stepping stone rather than a resting point. because, for example, in 2 years 2 Chainz and French Montana are going to fall off and they're not going to have anything to latch on to.

one thing i like about jay z is the fact that he can constantly adapt by always changing when he needs to

thats why he lasted 16 straight years without falling off

I like 50 a lot. I like the way he carries himself in interviews and I think he is smart as shit...with that being said I always thought his music was mediocre at best. I remember when wanksta dropped and thinking "this is what rap has come to?".

IMO, each album might have 3 decent bangers at best. You may be able to make a solid album out of all of them put together.

I think "Life's on the line" is his best song to date.

50 was like DMX early on, in that he could do the shallow thug thing but also be poetic on occasion. I think he lost the insightful lyrics as time went on, so he became less interesting. I still like the occasional song, but he's never been a lyricist.

50's way more concentrated to be the biggest hustler & most of his business ventures fly... his late music has been on point. The label has been holding him back... his sales went down but his popularity is still way up.

i think 50 cent is the most successful kind of hiphop artist imo.

he knew the record companies just uses you for 2-3 years and then dumps you. so he used his advances to make an independent (and massive) source of income to make him wealthier than the record company ever could.
