His music was on point back then. He is going back to kind of rediscover the passion he had. Back when rap was more relavent, back when he could do anything on the mic.
He is going back to make the same album again, he's going back to recapture enthusiasm he had so he can leave that. "I don't have anything left to give" mindset behind.
Things change over a decade, and some things from that time period he'd like to get back into his music, but that doesn't mean he is going backwards. It's just going back to his roots to give him fire to go forward.
That makes sense. I was thinking this must be to re-inspire himself and rap. Like the lyric: "Let's take it back to straight hip-hop and start it from scratch." In a lot of cases rap has gotten away from what it used to be, maybe he's trying to bring some of good old stuff into the present/future? Who knows, I wish I could get inside his head, see his thought process. He's so secretive, I want to know where he's going with this!
That's likely what this sequel actually is and means. I think it really just means revisiting that mind set and taking us back to a time where hip hop was rawer than it is now.
