There are only 2 generally accepted classic albums- MMLP and TES. Even the SSLP while being a dope ass major label debut album isn't a classic. Does Em have what it takes to make another classic- I don't know, it's definitely possible. The best signs that this will be a classic are the ones from the interview. He had his characteristic serious jokes such as "looking forward to nothing". Also I don't know if anyone has noticed, but on the berzerk video, there are many clips that are played backwards which likely signifies that he went back to the early days of rap for this song; however, it's very possible that this also means that Em is going back to his MMLP mindset (subliminal messaging!?).

Em has 3. Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP, Eminem Show.

Nas has 2. Illmatic, It Was Written.

Jay has 2-3. Reasonable Doubt, Blueprint, Black Album.

Pac has 3. Me Against the World, All Eyez On Me, 7 Day Theory.

Rakim had 3 with Eric B. Paid In Full, Follow the Leader, Let the Rhythm Hit Em.

Kendrick has 2 already, Section.80 and GKMC

Kanye has 1, MBDTF

Kanye doesn't have any in my opinion. Overrated as hell. Lyrically Kanye is average at his best.

GKMC I agree with. Section 80 was dope, don't know if it had a big enough impact to be considered a classic album though. He was too unknown by most at the time for it to have a classic impact.

GKMC is a classic for it's impact and universal acclaim, alone. We call SSLP a classic and it was his first studio album.

........You see this album going 4x platinum in 2013, and doing 740K plus first week???? I don't know.

I don't think Berzerk will get big enough for that.

What about The Heist for it's impact and universal acclaim??? Unlike most hip hop heads, I respect Macklemore. Not the strongest technical emcee but no one is touching on stuff like Same Love, and no one has an album like that in hip hop right now.

I agree with Talib Kweli, he was talking about how The Heist a few years from know will be seen as an album that changed the game.

My post was directed at the future btw guys, js

I was predicting Section.80 and GKMC to be classics in about 10 years, and around 10 years from now most people to recognize mbdtf to be Kanye's only classic

What about Tech? Of course none of his albums will ever be classics to the general public because he isn't popular enough and probably never will be, but what about real Hip Hop heads 5-8 years from now?

No one named SSLP a classic in its first year and the same goes with most debut albums, especially illmatic, Pacs albums, RD, Blueprint etc

GKMC is an amazing album I love it but give it a few more years to age before calling it a classic imo

But the point is that we name it a classic now. When it was his first album pretty much and he didn't have much experience...that's the excuse people give for Kendrick's album not being a classic. And GKMC is actually more acclaimed than SSLP so it's completely rational to call it a classic. If something is a classic, it's a classic, I don't think age should have too much bearing on the music. If MMLP 2 is a classic, I'll call it one and that will be that. I won't wait 5 years to call it a classic later lol. Relapse was a near classic to me back then, it's a near classic to me now. Nothing has changed. I usually don't change my mind, the only thing I've changed my mind on is the Recovery beats. I used to not have a problem with them, now I can't stand them almost.

K. Dot's album was universally acclaimed, everyone loved it. Fans and critics alike. It's the most talked about and known album, I think, since MMLP. It makes rappers want to make better albums, inspires people, and had a huge impact on the hip hop community...if that doesn't define a classic then I don't know what does...please don't say age lol.

Anghellic, that's it. Horrorcore classic hands down.

I agree, Anghellic is/will always be a classic to me.

I know a lot of guys on here love Relapse but I honestly don't see it ever being a classic outside of this forum. People claim it's getting similar praise over time elsewhere, but I'm just not seeing it.

I know I'm not the voice of hip hop and neither are you and neither is anyone else in here lol. We've talked about this. I let the hip hop community be the voice of hip hip lol. The general consensus is that it is a classic. Just like the general consensus is that Relapse is lackluster when I don't agree. Classics are game changers. Time doesn't matter. SSLP was a game changer, as were his other 2 albums. MBDTF is considered a game changer and classic by many. And now it's GKMC. Every once and a while albums come out that impact and make people wanna step it up.

I said I thought Relapse to be a near classic, not a classic. That's my opinion, you guys have yours. I'm sorry.

It takes time more an album to be a classic and there's no other way around it.

But I don't understand how GKMC could get worse over time. The only possible complaint I could possibly have would be Drake. Not because I hate him or anything, but just because I don't feel like his verse fit on Poetic Justice.

Tbh I agree that it takes time for an album to be a "classic." But holy shit this thread gets detailed so hard, so often lol.
