For me, there is not one forgettable song in his first three albums.

nope.

no album with insane, we made you, medicine ball, old time's sake, crack a bottle, and underground can be better than sslp. plus some of the mindbendingly bad lyrics in the unmentioned songs (JABBA THE HUTT BEDDY BYE BYE) , it's just not possible.

Medicine Ball was filler, but I liked it. It was Em going psycho with rhyming. Plus the last part with the impersonation was hilarious in a "I'm-so-going-to-hell-for-laughing-at-this" way.

(iii) Does the quality of the two last albums give any solid indication of an MMLP2 > SSLP?

Or... Isn't it the fact that the album is called MMLP2 that this claim is even considered? It's natural, of course, since most here would say MMLP > SSLP. What I'm getting at is, expectations are shooting through the roof because of the title. It's hype, with little substance.

:y:

These questions aren't actually addressing the issue. We should look at if his highs from the past few years can touch SSLP. I believe they do. I'm a relapse lover (my second favorite album behind TES), so I believe songs like SWA, 3AM, Music Box, Buffalo Bill are better than most of the SSLP. I believe he has some highs on Recovery (not a big Recovery fan, honestly) as well, with verses or parts of verses from songs like, CWB, On Fire, Seduction, Almost Famous can touch SSLP. I'm also a huge BME fan. Songs like Welcome 2 Hell (the rhymes following wizard of words could be my favorite of all time), Above the Law, I'm on Everything (the rhymes with Donovan McNabb, holy shit), Echo, etc are all better than SSLP material.

So, I agree, we have yet to see a complete album that everyone would agree is a classic since the TES. With that being said, I believe he still has it in him to create a classic. I have high hopes for this album. Am i setting myself up to be disappointed? Quite possibly, but i believe we have enough evidence as of late to believe that he can still make a classic.

The Reunion is a little bit like it...as far as storytelling tracks go. And maybe Same Song & Dance as well.

The reunion is kind of .. maybe not so much SS&D but TR gets close.

Gosh, I really hope Em and royce drop an BME album .. if they were just fucking around with the EP, what would an album with concepts like The Reunion look like then. :flutter:

Medicine Ball is a top Relapse track doe.

We Made You is a nice single too, the rapping, and production... all of it in-fact, are nice as hell.

It's only the video which lets it down.

No argument about Underground and Crack a Bottle though. Beautiful too.

But, I disagree... it can be... at the time - tracks like My Fault and My Name Is were the We Made You's (I'd listen to We Made You over My Name Is any day though... rapping is way more enjoyable) of the album... they only become classic in retrospect, with nostalgia.

In reality, all his albums have tracks which waver in quality - the only important thing which makes them stand the test of time in the context of the album, is whether they fit, sound-wise.

Medicine Ball and We Made You are totally of the world/consistent with that sound; don't degrade the album at all. Medicine Ball first verse and hook too >>>

Sorry, but My Name is was an instant hit when it came out. It's affect on hip hop and hip pop music cemented it as an instant classic. Nostalgia has no relevance. We Made you is incomparable. It wasn't well received and has no comparable nostalgic value, and nor will it.
