I used to hate Kendrick. I really did. I listened to GKMC, I didn't get into it. The hype he had absolutely irked me to no end. Everyone saying he's the savior of hip-hop...

Then one day, I listened to GKMC again. It clicked. I enjoyed it. I appreciated his story-telling. His emotional depth. His imagery. He has good rhymes sometimes too.

What I'm trying to say is: I appreciate Kendrick for his above skill-set. His flows too. I just don't think he's all there yet rhyme-wise. Once he gets there and still can show us his superb story-telling, holy fuck, I'll be the biggest nut-rider of his you've ever seen. Real talk.

Don't even think of taking that as I put rhyming above everything. But it IS important to rap music. It shows you care about the technical-side. You can have all the emotional depth and storytelling in the world, but I just feel if... you don't rhyme... I don't feel you're trying your hardest. If that makes sense. That probably makes it sound terrible haha.

For me, I love rhyming. I think it's the best thing ever lol. I appreciate artists who can write crazy schemes and intertwine them and make them beautiful interlaced with emotional depth, story-telling... etc. Which is why I love Em so much. Watsky too (just an example, lay off me). That is why I like artists to rhyme!!

Long story short: I appreciate Kendrick for what he does: story-telling, depth, imagery, and flow. I just wish he'd rhyme better.

I think all you Kendrick-lovers can live with that? :b:

^ it looks like you're the opposite of me =p

I valuate rappers who are more poetic/spoken word with their shit than rappers who use multisyllabic rhymes; Tupac, Scarface, Souls Of Mischief, Ice Cube, Ras Kass, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole... artists who can paint a picture with their rap. It's probably because I grew up on Tupac (yeah my mom was a fan :sweating: )
It must explain why Stan is one of my favorite Eminem's songs :flutter:

I also love rappers like Jay-Z (at his prime), he wasn't crazy on the rhymes but dude has quotables for days, you can dissect Take Over and you'll notice that almost every single bar is a quotable

Kendrick is just an average rapper who made an amazing album. Every time he gets on a track with people who can rap, he gets outshine. Now I see why Joe Budden hates some hip hop fans nowadays.

As a serious question, where has he been outshined recently?

@StayWideAwake-I am not talking about the Control verse. I have no problem with Elision being a huge Tech fan or him not liking Kendrick. I`m not a big fan of neither of those two. I just don`t like when a guy who thinks that Tech`s Hunterish verse is amazing is acting like "I just can`t understand how can you like this, this is so average, it didn`t inspire anything...". That 15 second snippet of Kendrick`s verse is better than the whole Hunterish verse. At least in my opinion. Kendrick is saying something. Tech is just dropping words that rhyme, and that is, like Class said, the easiest thing in rap.

I don't know if anybody's mentioned it yet, but could it be a Papoose diss?

Fact: Nothing has been the same since the Control verse.
Fact: Papoose took the diss the most personal, aka sensative rapper
Fact: Papoose says "You a fuking joke, we laugh at you like hee hee hee.
Fact: Kendrick responds, "ha ha jokes on you"
Fact: Papoose says "My bullets hit em' dead in his cooty come out his booty"
Fact: Kendrick responds, "I'm bullet proof, ya shits will never penetrate"
Fact: they actually sell Papoose pajamas, google it ..

saw this on a comment. It kind of makes sense.

I think it's the reason why he gets so much love, he reminds a lot of people of Tupac but with a modern and probably better flow. If you listen to his recent verses, there's no way you can't think of Makaveli. Mayer Hawthorne even asked him to rap like 2pac on "Crime"

And the fact that Kendrick is working with 2pac's producer for his next album shows you where the influence comes from

Did you really just say that on a Eminem forum?

Yep. Says Trshady.com in my browser. :coffee:
"So one last time, I'm back, 'fore it fades into black and it's all over, behold the final chapter in the saga, trying to recapture that lightning trapped in a bottle twice, the magic that started it all...tragic portrait of an artist tortured....trapped in his own drawings..." - Bruce.

Interesting....

It's more fun to think it's at Drake though haha. Cause as Ghostface said "this nigga got liquid vagina flowin through his veins"

he dissed Drake but he sent a lot of subliminals.

Fact: Meek Mill was as hyped as Kendrick Lamar last year
Fact: the hype for Dreams and Nightmares died down and Good Kid Maad city is one of the most praised albums in recent memory
Fact: People made fun of Meek and they told him to stay in his dreams & nightmares because Kendrick was running the game
Fact: Meek released a mixtape a few days ago and there's absolutely no hype about it

The pajamas line is definitely a shot at drake because he is soft and sensitive but you can also think about Meek Mill and Papoose

Fleka wrote:Oh my God-I agree with Class. Well, shit can happen.

He is 100% right. That "Unga bunga bunga..." verse is pure gibberish. Flow, rhyming are there, but what the fuck did he say? Writing a verse with an actual meaning takes much more skill than just stacking words that rhyme and say nothing. And this verse is jut that. Tech is good, but Kendrick is a better lyricist.

@Fleka: This isn't any disrespect to you as you were just commenting on an already existing argument. With that said:

Please can people stop bringing up tech n9ne. it's getting so old. Elision said he didn't think the verse was that great, and that it didn't spark as much influence as people made it out to be. I disagree, I think that the Control verse was great and took balls, and I bet his cypher is sick. You can disagree with him without bringing up some stupid shit that Tech N9ne said.

We get it. The Unga Bunga shit isn't saying anything. It isn't even words so it's hardly even worth making the point.

He very clearly, and in bold, stated that he does care about meaning, but he just looks at a rappers technical ability first. It's very obvious that it takes more skill to say something than to say nothing. He said he thinks it's better for a rapper to write a technical, meaningful story, rather than just a meaningful story in itself.

Here's an example (I'm a Yela fan so chill before you think this is an insult):
I'm assuming he would think Same Song and Dance is a superior story telling track than Director's Cut. They are both awesome story songs, but one has more attention to the intricacies of rhyming while telling the story. Therefore (I'm assuming), he would think SS&D is better since there is another layer of complication to it. Whether you agree or disagree, I understand the conclusion.

Lastly, we aren't even talking about meaningful songs at all. We're talking about the Control verse and a cypher. If he said he thought Art of Peer Pressure was shit, then all of these comments attacking "content" would be in context. We're talking about rapping your ass off and bragging about yourself.

This is an example of a Straw Man fallacy. He says that he doesn't like the Control verse (a bragging verse, saying he's better than everyone). Then, to counter his argument you guys say:
"Yeah well Tech N9ne doesn't even tell meaningful messages in his stories." That wasn't his premise. You attacked the "straw man" and act like that proves that "Control" is good. Just tell him why he's wrong about Control and end it.

With all of that said, I don't even agree with him. I love Kendrick and I can't wait for this cypher. I just want normal arguments.

What are you rambling on about? All I addressed was that he said focusing on lyrics and not the flow and rhyming was lazy writing.
You think your personal attacks make up for what you lack?

also, people are now talking about the "the Pin the tail on the donkey" line but it flew over so many heads when the snippet came out..

-Pin the tail on the donkey, boy, you've been a fake
-Penned the tale on the donkey, boy, you've been a fake

two different meanings but same result
