Eminem is still a beast with wordplay, complex rhyming, etc.
I'm at a loss for words as to why he can't rap in his songs all the time now like he does in cyphers. I'm done with the fast as fuck flow. It worked perfect on Rap God and made a perfect song IMO for him. Also a few other songs on MMLP2 it worked.
But out of these new few verses I've heard from him, I only really liked the 2nd verse on Guts Over Fear. The hook and beat on that song are weak though IMO, and the 1st verse was meh. And now Detroit vs Everybody.....wasn't really feeling his verse much.
Was it complex and have a lot of difficult rhyming, yeah. But it's like he's sacrificing the overall sound of the music or his verse in general to be ubber complex for the sake of being ubber complex with it. There's been recent evidence of Em being ubber complex and not trying to beat us over the head with his flow.
Brainless, Groundhog Day, Baby, etc.
I wish Em would just rap like he does on Brainless, Baby, Groundhog Day, Evil Twin for the rest of his career. Honestly. After MMLP2, aside from Monster/Stronger Than I Was/Berzerk (Survival had some dope rapping), this shit isn't that great IMO.
Guts Over Fear and Detroit vs Everybody sound like a bit of a regress from HTS and MMLP2. I'm a big fan of the dude, just being honest in my own personal opinion. I'm such a fan, I want him to get the universal respect he deserves. I understand there's going to be people who 100% hate anything new Em does, but at least HTS and MMLP2 he kind of silenced the critics a bit.
