MTV's Top Ten Rappers (Updated)

Postby Robbie G » May 18th, '08, 01:08

In an attempt to save itself from the humiliation of knowing absolutely nothing about who is hot and who is not in hip hop, MTV released their "honorable mentions" list, which they hope will fix the backlash from fans who said their "Hottest MCs In The Game" list was completely wrong.

MTV says "These guys may not have made the top 10 "Hottest MCs" list for one reason or another, but they have impacted the game during the past several months. And while everyone's goal is to make it to the roundtable's controversial ranking board, an honorable mention is nothing to sneeze at."

Either way, to us it just seems like MTV is trying to dig itself out of the "out of touch" hole they dug. MC's listed in their "honorable mentions" list include The Game, Soulja Boy, Shawty Lo, Fabolous, Joe Budden, Rocko, Prodigy, Gucci Mane, Styles-P, Flo-Rida, Plies, Webbie, Ludacris, Fat Joe, and Bun B.

Basically anyone who released an album or single in the last year or basically if you are a rapper with a record deal, you were named.

In an attempt to connect back with the Hip Hop culture, which it lost years ago by banning almost every hip hop video and censoring lyrics that appear on it's station, MTV released their annual 'Hottest MCs In The Game' list Friday.

Proving how out of touch with Hip Hop it is, MTV's list clearly isn't more than a list of recent albums that have been released with a few notables inserted in to try and give the TV station some street cred. Check out the list below, do you agree?

01. Kanye West
02. Jay-Z
03. Lil Wayne
04. Rick Ross
05. Snoop Dogg
06. 50 Cent
07. Lupe Fiasco
08. Young Jeezy
09. Andre 3000
10. T.I.

I wouldn't expect MTV to know shit about music anyway...last musical thing I saw on that channel was a long time ago.

people are making a huge deal out of this list and dont realise that this is for CURRENTLY, not the opinion of whos the best rappers. Not that i agree with this list. If u've been paying attention to this over the past few weeks on mtv.com u'll notice that 50 Cent and Snoop dogg both did interviews with mtv saying that'd they be pissed if they weren't on the cut and what do ya know? they both end up on there. Theres no reason snoop shouldnt be on there seeing he just dropped a album but 50? curtis came out awhile ago and was a complete flop compared to his albums before that. I was happy to see Lupe Fiasco on there simply cuz he doesnt get noticed by the mainstream that much and he had a good album. I HATE lil wayne but once again not supprised at mtv and dont blame them for putting him on there since hes constantly droppin songs and everyone thinks hes a hip hop god :n: Andre 3000 was really random considering him and outcast havent released a track for awhile and i hardly consider him as a rapper anymore with his recent styles. Rick Ross hasnt done much this year of wat im aware of either. Crappy list overall. MTV doesnt kno music anymore TRL is litterally almost the only music related show left. I think Nas should be on there despite his album hasnt dropped yet lol
RIP Big proof~Broken hearted, my soul's like a open target
And I'm ready to leave Earth

Wow. Their just doing mainstream hit rappers. Hottest MC's in the Game? Not this year, right?
Prove's that they don't really know the rap game. If I were to compile a list of MC's, it'd be of Hip-Hop legends not just hits. Like this:

1. 2Pac
2. Nas
3. B.I.G.
4. N.W.A. (They're all rap legends. Including Dr. Dre)
5. Jay-Z
7. Eminem
8. Big Pun
9. LL Cool J
10. The Furious Five (including Flash)
BONUS: 11. Snoop D.O.G.G

Now, I understand, they mean maybe recently in the game. My list would still be different. Maybe like this:

1. 2Pac (He's alive and well, creating new music)
2. Jay-Z
3. Nas
4. Lupe Fiasco
5. Busta Rhymes
6. Cassidy
7. Lil Wayne
8. Kanye West
9. Eminem (I would probably put him somewhere between 3 and 4, but he hasnt really put out anything in a while. Still my 2nd fav. Rapper )
10. Rick Ross

He doesn't deserve to be on a list that isn't negative or have the word "worst" in it.
