My Review....which matters more to me than anyone else's opinion
Dr. West (skit) - great way to start an album, really builds a story line behind all the crazy drug rapping.
3 AM - When it first came out, I was pretty content with this song. However after hearing the rest of the album, its a so so track. Unlike the other songs, the flow pretty much stays the same and gets pretty boring. FAIR track - 6/10
My Mom - I actually had my mom listen to this and she thought it was on point haha. I actually liked the weird accented hook. This reminded me a lot of Brain Damage and I loved that track. I thought it was funny how the second verse he rapped as his mom. I like that carnival beat with the tubas. First in a string of GOOD tracks - 8.5/10
Insane - Hook is great. Second verse is heat. That felching thing is not really necessary, that shits sick. The last bar "well this is called ass rape and we're shooting a jail scene" is a good way to end this 'very' homo song. I can see the mainstream audience buying this album and hearing this song and be like WTF? The beat is nothing special but fits the song. I'm down for the perverted shit but this might be a lil. Still like the song though, second verse and hook did it for me. GOOD track - 7.5/10
Bagpipes From Baghdad - Love the beat, bagpipes sound sweet. This song 'needed' as lil accent accent imo and it sounds dope. Rhyming is great. I still don't get how bagpipes relate to baghdad but whatever. The hook is unique, and it grew on me after 3-4 listens. Lol at "you're running over the snow blower with a lawn mower." The third verse about the lesbian conjoined twins is great. Beat is very unique and sounds great. Another GOOD track - 8/10
Hello - I've seen people hate on this song on here. This is actually one of my favorite songs on the album. Fuck Flo Rida, they should play this at the club. The beat absolutely knocks. One of the best hooks on the album imo, i like how he switches the rhymes up in the hooks (yellow and jello). I like the lines he ended each verse and that intro/outro repeat is great. This woulda been a better first single than We Made You. Love the beat, love this track. GREAT track - 9/10
Same Song and Dance - I immediately fell in love with this song. Its one of the softest songs on the albums but i love the story and its a nice change up. This is my favorite beat on the album, love that vocal sample in the background. Lol at Lindsey Lohan Britney Spear verses. Very chill song that i'm gonna play a lot. Dope hook, i love how he twisted this song to it talking about the last time his victims get to sing/dance is on this song. CLASSIC track - 10/10
We Made You - Well its alright I guess, it did grow on me but this isn't my shit at all. FAIR track 5/10
Medicine Ball - The beat is on some anthem shit. "All my West Side bitches throw it up..." line was funny and the "i had a vasectomy hector so you can't get pregnant when i bisexually reck ya" LOL. First verse is straight lyrical murder. I didn't like the hook, seemed a lil too self boasting and stupid sounding to me. Christopher Reeves part is funny but its pretty stupid after a few listens. GOOD track - 8/10
Paul (skit) - He never likes his albums lol
Stay Wide Awake - So many are praising this song, so no need to go too much in depth. Second verse where he rhymes entire bars is beyond crazy. First part of the hook is straight shittin on the industry without naming names. This song has soooo much replay value imo. HOOK - one of my favorite Em hooks. This song is nothing like Em has done before. LYRICAL SLAUGHTER. Slight accent but it sounds dope on this song. Beat is so haunting I love it. CLASSIC track - 10/10
Old Time's Sake - This songs actually doesn't sound too bad on the album. Good change up imo. It OK, not horrible like some people are saying. FAIR track 5/10
Must Be the Ganja - Everyone was shittin on this song when they saw it on the tracklist. Obviously they were wrong. Very good song. Unique beat but i think the snare drum is a lil too loud and painfull on the ears if you listen with headphones. One of the best hooks on the album that you can sing along to. Content is....idk, kinda sounds like Lil Wayne song (i dont mind Wayne at all though), self boasting at the beginning of verses. Very musical song though, great sound music wise. Would have made a good single. WTF is Interscope on? This shit woulda been popular imo. GOOD track -
8/10
Mr. Mathers - Sets up Deja Vu nicely, kinda like how the Kiss skit sets up Soldier.
Deja Vu - No need to go in depth because i'm gonna end up writing way too much. "eating 3 musketeers in the rear seat" i really liked that end line. Instant CLASSIC track - 10/10
Beautiful - If they promote this song right, it could be a big radio hit. I have to agree with a thread I saw that this sounds like a 2006 song. It doesn't sound like its from the Dre recording sessions (multilayer vocals are more of an Eminem thing on Eminem production). Maybe he should open up that vault and dig some more of these up. I enjoyed the crazy perverted raps throughout this album, but this song just touches another chord for me. Loved that "unfortunately I am, I just hide behind the tears of a clown." Nice sample on the beat, very chill relaxing beat. CLASSIC track - 10/10
Crack a Bottle - why the fuck would you put this garbage after beautiful of all paces on the track list? It was alright when it first came out but it got old quick. GARBAGE/ ALREADY HEARD IT ENOUGH SO I'LL SKIP track - 4/10
Steve Berman (skit) - pretty much confirms Relapse 2..nice
Underground - DAMN! This has those those rhymes that you write place (like facebook status, shit like that) Lines like "wack job in the back with a black stockin cap jackin off to a hockey mask at a boxing match." Chorus is epic, never heard that kinda shit from Eminem ever. Flow is different but its whatever, doesn't bring the song down at all. After 3 full listens of the album, I always replayed this song the most so its an early favorite. CLASSIC track - 10/10
Conclusion - I wasn't expecting this kind of an album at all. Blew me away the first time through. Sure, there are some rough patches, but all those are the songs that were already labeled as "singles." I think this is the best comeback any rapper has ever made the past decade. A lot of replay value. It's so damn lyrical, its unbelievable the words/phrases/entire bars he rhymes. I don't think the average mainstream radio listener is ready for this but the teenagers are gonna eat it this up no doubt. I'm not a teenager anymore but I'm very impressed and content with this album. I would put Relapse up against the SSLP anyday. For me, it even puts a few scratches on MMLP. Doesn't touch TES though, still my favorite rap album to date. And Encore what? Glad we can all forget that now.
Can't wait for Relapse 2.
Relapse 8.5/10
