Hey, been reading the forums for a few months but never really felt like posting, till I got hold of the new Album.
See, I just can't get hooked on it. The 1st Album I heard (as is with most people from the UK I believe) was the Marshal Mathers LP and there were 5 or 6 songs that hooked me, the obvious ones Like Stan and The Way I Am and with them I grew to love songs like Amityville and Remember Me (still my favorite Em song to date)
Then I went back and picked up Slim Shady LP and I was gripped by If I had, Rock Bottom, My Fault and Still Don't Give a Fuck, and from that loved the Album.
Anyways not gonna go through all albums but its been the same story for me, there has been a couple of Deep songs on the Albums that grabbed me, but also some fun songs with pure catchy chorus' that broke up all the emotional stuff.
I don't get that with this album. Only had 4 complete playthroughs but Im finding it hard to find any substance. The songs that have grabbed me so far are Underground and We Made You. Everything else is seeming very average to me. Where's the fun from his previous albums? The immediate grabbing choruses? The insane unique beats (The Way I Am, As the World Turns, Mockingbird, Crazy In Love etc.) that no one else could come up with? And where is the guests? I know its not what a Album should be built on, but I loved Nate's appearances, he could fire out a quality hook.
Will this album eventually appeal to me like the others when all these aspects of an Em album seem (at the first few listens) to be missing? I mean, I can tell from the first few listens that lyrically, the album seems superior to others, and mean more to him in general. But is it worth sacraficing other things that make his music great? =(
Hope I get there eventually.
